The Way To Win Is To Do W.I.N.!

One of the reasons you pitchers pitch is to be successful and your success is ultimately determined by WINS!!! I subscribe to a great web site from Coach Traub who deals in the mental part of the game. He recently wrote this quote down: "THE WAY TO WIN IS TO DO W.I.N. WHAT'S IMPORTANT NOW!!! That quote is right on for this off season, during your preseason and during your season coming up.

So, WHAT'S IMPORTANT NOW in your off season??

1. You should be improving your fundamentals
2. You should be increasing your speed
3. You should be improving your better pitches
4. You should be learning a new pitch
5. You should be working on your location
6. You should be improving your spins.

WHAT'S IMPORTANT NOW in the preseason?

1. You should be getting your body in shape to pitch
2. You should learn what pitches you are going to use in games and work on them
3. You should work on Location, Location and more location
4. You should work on what pitches to throw in what situations

WHAT'S IMPORTANT NOW, during your season?

1. You should work on being mentally tough
2. You should develop a pregame routine
3. You should develop a pre pitch routine
4. You should know what to throw in situations
5. You should know where to throw to whom
6. You should know the game.

So no matter what season you are in, you need to do W.I.N!!!

If I may expand on your point; Know which pitches to throw in a game. This should also include "Know which pitches are working". If your riseball ain't rising, and your curveball ain't curving, you're just throwing fastballs. I've seen too many coaches or catchers calling 7 different pitches because the players tells them they have 7 pitches...
