What ever happened to playing time based on merit? I'm about fed up with these coaches kids starting every game and batting in the middle of the lineup because they are "elite" players.. it's a bunch of garbage! Why bother playing travel ball and paying thousands of dollars a year to watch some coaches child fumble balls and whiff at the plate all summer long! My poor DD is about to be run out of this great sport because of self centered and incompetent coaches!

WHY DIDN'T I ACCEPT AN OFFFER FROM A NON-PARENT COACH !!

Just curious where the $1200 travel team fees go.. 11 girls on the team.= $13,200

Eight summer tournaments total entry for all $4785

Jersey's -$275 per girl
Org fees - $100 per girl
If you total all those figures up you get $4125

add the two together you get $9075

total team fees for 11 girls is $13,200
Where is the left over $4290 going to??
we had no winter tournaments or Indoor training costs at all..
What would you do? Who would you address these things too.
The org's president?

I feel I'm being swindled out of $400

Concerned Parent

It doesn't sound like you are happy with the coaches and the organization. In another thread you were questioning how your money was spent and if they over charged you. If you really feel they are lose with your funds and playing daddy ball then maybe it is time to move on. As Mike pointed out there are a number of teams looking for good players.

What's frustrating is my daughter's average is .440 with a .675 obp.

Just curious if you played no winter ball and did not practice how is your kid hitting .440 with a .675 obp?

Heavy hitter: That batting average and OBP were from summer of 2016 the last time the team actually played. Those numbers were based on 8 tournaments we played in. Let me ask you a question back... Would you be happy paying upwards of $6800 for one summer ( includes all costs for travel etc... ) to watch your child not get the reps and practice she needs to become a better player?? I REALIZE we need to move on! It's just not going to be in the middle of the season. I'm not teaching my DD to be a quitter and I WILL NOT let down the other 11 girls on the team.. FYI, in the future please DO NOT question or make comments that what I'm posting is not legit- * batting average and OPB *

Thank You

It doesn't matter if it's a parent or non-parent coach, the problem really is any coach that plays their favorites. To take it a little further, wouldn't polite player's or aggressive player's be considered favorable characteristics a good player might possess? Even if they aren't the most athletic player on the team?

How old is your dd? How do you even have these stats? I take game changer and I couldn't tell you how many at bats my dd had at her last tourney a few weeks ago. I think parents can get way too wrapped up in stats. I'm not saying she's not great. I'm just saying if you have to break out stats, maybe you should just be open minded and watch the entire team closely on the field at the next game.

Jen- my daughter is 15. And I purchased an app called Sc baseball. It's a great app to track all at bats and fielding. At the end of a game it calculates all of the input you entered and gives you batting average- on base % - slugging % and walk to K ratio. It holds a max of 50 games per season. That is how I know my DD stats. And I have watched the entire team closely for approximately 45 games last summer hence the reason for my post...... fumbling balls an whiffing at pitches constantly would get you benched UNLESS your dad is one of the coaches! My daughter made a choice to stay one more year because she has a good friend on the team and has grown to become close to a few of the players also. I'm just praying that this summer doesn't break her love for the game and make her want to quit all together. After this winter of her team doing absolutely NOTHING together it doesn't look like we're off to a good start. It's sad when the parent pays good money to a org/coach not to practice or play 1 minute in the off season. The winter is the time to get faster, stronger and wiser! not the summer..

To be honest, I understand dad's playing some daddy ball based on they're running the show. I get it. They're in charge and every parent thinks their kid is the best. I just never took my dd to a try out where I knew the coaches kid was a short stop. I'm sure that solved a lot of potential issues.

Is she 4 for 9 or 30 for 68? If the latter - stop complaining about playing time. If the prior then stop bragging about your kid's stats.

Where in my previous posts was I complaining about playing time? I'm frustrated with the coaches kids playing every inning in every game and not letting all the girls get a fair shot- no where in any of my posts was I saying that my DD was not playing?? She has played every game and batted 8th in the lineup... what coach bats a kid 8th with a .440 average out of 108 at bats? 48 hits which 21 were doubles and drove in 71 runs? If you want bragging now thats bragging run26! Get your facts straight before you comment please...

Im also frustrated about paying $1200 to play in 8 tournaments the whole entire season! No fall ball no fall practices no winter ball no winter practices.. doesn't add up..

Ok, wow....trying to keep with all the twist and turns is tough. So let me see If I understand everything now.

The current team is the same team she played on last year
Her stats are from last summer not this fall or winter
Current team did not practice do or play any fall/winter ball
You realized last summer you should leave but didn't want to do it mid season because you didn't want to teach your dd be a quitter and you didn't want hurt the other girls.
Last year girls fumbling balls and whiffing at pitches would get you benched unless you dad was a coach.
DD decided to stay because she wanted to play with her friends.

I would say you complaints are legit and move on but you made a decision to stay. Your DD decided she wanted to play with her friend(which is fine) . Getting mad about something you already knew doesn't really make whole lot of since. I would suggest sitting out and away and enjoy watching you dd play. Stay positive and always try to keep your dd positive. If you decide to move next year take a little extra time and try to find out all you can about the team(s) she is going to tryout for.

Questions about fund are for this year not last year - This is one I would asked to get more clarification on expenditures. The coach should be able to give a breakdown of the cost.

I agree 100 % - I'm just venting on the forum because I don't want to vent to my daughter.

.440, .675, doesn't wiff or bobble while playing 1st, 3rd and LF? I would switch teams now. With those impressive numbers and fielding percentages, any Laser, Outlaw, Hawks, Doom team would easily make room on their roster even now in mid-March.

Lewam3 if you would have read the above posts earlier she doesn't want to leave in the middle of the season
and she doesn't want to leave her friends hi and dry - plus I'm not throwing away $1200. FYI... she also was offered a position with 2 out of those 4 teams you mentioned 2 years ago. We didn't accept offers based on scheduling and traveling.

It absolutely should be based on merit, but as we all know that is not always the case....Unfortunately you and the Coach obviously have different views on what playing time your daughter has earned. I think the question you need to ask yourself is if you think it will / can change. If you don't think it will I feel this is the perfect time to discuss the options with your DD in case you do look for a new team for the summer.

I do think I would ask why the cost was $1200 without a fall or winter schedule. That seems pretty high for no off season costs. You also made mention that you don't want to leave in the middle of the year. Without a fall or winter season, IMO you would be leaving at the start of the season, not the middle. Consequently this would be the perfect time to leave if you so choose.

Either way, good luck on your decision and enjoy the summer.

Ha! Your right I guess there's no middle season considering we only play in the summer!

I have read the entire thread and your posts as well. I respect your opinion and understand your venting for your daughter too. I dont think there is anyone on this forum who hasn't experienced what you and your daughter have experienced as well. But understand this is a FORUM, where ones opinions will come with other's responses, and sometimes, yes, someones advice.
IMHO, you are already throwing $1200 away by playing with this team and coach that you will be constantly frustrated with all summer. She is also playing 16u and if she is batting .400 etc, etc, then she may be looking at playing at the next level. At some point, playing with friends is just that, playing with friends, and you as a parent can help suggest that maybe playing for a merit based organization and getting some fair playing time and seeing some fair and positive results can also be coupled with meeting some new friends.
BUT...
If your purpose for coming on this forum and posting what you did is to SIMPLY RANT and VENT for your DD, well, then...
all I can say is... I feel your pain, try to make the most of it this summer, and have her play her best...
