Purdue shocks Michigan

After giving up two long touchdown runs and losing 14-0 in the first game of Sunday's Big Ten doubleheader at Alumni Field in Alumni, Purdue shocked the Big Ten softball world by beating the defending national champions 5-4 in what is generally believed to be the biggest win in school softball history!!
Former North Canton standout shortstop Tricia Lilley gave the Boilers the lead for good with a two-run double to left field in the first. Lilley also hit a bomb to RCF that deflected off the CF's glove (one of FIVE Blue errors) and a single off Ritter and stole third twice as Purdue built a 5-1 lead and then held off a furious Michigan rally in the seventh!!!
It just goes show that on any given Sunday.....Michigan's lineup is not the powerful top-to-bottom assault task of 2005 -- the last four are not that strong. The defense also was uncharacteristically gracious with the five booboos!!!
Oh well, for a few days the Boilermakers can feel like world (champion) beaters!!!
Lilley is finishing her senior strongly with a .355 batting average with four weeks left!

Purdue was very fortunate that game. When Worthy lined out to CF to end the game, runners were in scoring position at 2nd & 3rd. And how about OSU sweeping Northwestern? I know that Michigan usually considers Northwestern their toughest competition in the conference.

Bigtrain has never made a secret about who he is and who his kids are. Congratulations to the boilermakers on a great win.

Thanks Dogs and Crazy -- there's been a lot of frustration for the players and fans in four years in W. Layflat.
So it was nice to ``enjoy the moment'' -- and it WAS in the sun!!! even if it was ``Up North''
Streak -- so what if it came from a dad?? It's news any time a Midwest team beats the defending national champions who reside in Ann Arbor. Obviously, you don't have much news to report.
Heck, I'm even prouder of my daughter in the 14-0 loss in Game 1 because she refused to quit -- Boilers were down 8-0, runner on first in the third inning -- a UM hitter hits a one-hop shot up the middle, Tricia dove parallel to the ground, fully outstretched, snared the ball in her glove, flipped it out of her glove to second for a force -- Great players never quit!!!

And also don't forget about the addition of Amy Kyler to the coaching staff. 2 local ladies!

Boldie, I could argue, but it wouldn't do me a darn bit of good!!
You got the facts on your side!!!
I was surprised the Falcons didn't put up more of a fight in Columbus last Wednesday. After seeing them in Tampa in March, I thought they could be the best in Ohio.
Ya gotta go with the Buckeyes at this point, however.
Gee, and Purdue beat OSU, so.......
Ah, what the heck -- none of this crap matters anyways!!!
Good luck to Kenz & Leon this spring/summer!!

BIGTRAIN!!!!!!!!!.........Love to hear ANYTHING about "that team from up North" being on the losing end of anything!!!!!! I also love to hear a proud dad talk about his DD. Just more proof that hard work pays off. Keep up the updates. I also just got off the phone with a friend of mine who was at the OSU/Toledo game tonight and I heard in the background "Now batting Courtney Pruner", who lined a pitch off the 220' sign in center field (my friend described it as a ROCKET!!!!!!) I love to hear about NE Ohio girls playing college ball (especially at OSU!!!)

Bobby, thanks for following the local girls' progress!!!
Say what you want about that school up north, but they drew more than 1,000 fans and both games against Purdue were televised!!!
Where else in the Midwest is that happening???
Oh, and there's an NCAA National Champion banner flying above the stadium!!!!!
I still believe the best coaching is being done in Ann Arbor. Sure, they slept-walked through a stinker, but their mechanics in all phases of the game are top-level!!! Losing SS Jessica Merchant and DP Motycka to graduation really hurt the offensive depth.

Okay, so this is a little off the subject (but congrats to all DD's playing softball at the collegiate level).

Where/what station were these games televised at/on? I try to watch/DVR all the games, but I only saw the Oklahoma vs Texas A&M games this past weekend on ESPN. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance! ;D

Love, it was broadcast on Comcast -- if you have DirecTV and get the expanded sports package (Fox, etc.) Comcast is on that
I bribed some cronies in Detroit to tape it off their cable

Hey Big--thanks for the info! Unfortunately I am on Cox Cable. My place is facing the wrong direction to get satellite so I had to get cable--haha.

I know when I played college ball my dad was just as proud of me as you are of your daughter. She's working hard and now reaping the rewards of that hard work. You have every right to be proud and brag about her! You made lots of sacrifices too to get her where she is! Good luck to her!
