OK, AFTER A MINI BLIZZARD THIS EVENING THOUGHT THIS MIGHT HEAT UP THIS BOARD.
KNOWING THAT INDOOR BALL IN JANUARY MEANS LITTLE, EXCEPT FOR SEEING WHAT POTENTIAL TEAMS HAVE OR WHAT LEVEL THEY ARE EXECUTING AT CURRENTLY IN SOME SPECIFIC SKILLS THE GAMES THEMSELVES REALLY DON'T MEAN MUCH AS THE RESULTS ARE TAINTED BY NETS, CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE, 1 UMPIRE, MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES NOT PRESENT..........
However, I will still take a stab at ranking all the teams that were at Kent State this last weekend based on what "I" saw, hoping others will share what they saw and provide there own analysis and if bold enough, there own rankings.
# 1. Intensity
Only four months in and this NEW team showed immense power/hitting against one of Ohio's Best Pitchers(HR Bomb- but ONLY double in indoor rules, Triple- but ONLY double - indoor netting, and several other hard hits against Doom95 and then a complete Arsenal of Rockets in their second game from entire line up.) Believe 1 error on Defense all day showing best of all worls Pitching, Hitting, and Defense, and complete domination of speed to Take Bases AT WILL.
Pitching was basically UNTOUCHED giving up 1 hit in each game in which INTENSITY's #3 Pitcher pitched last 2 or3 innings of each game while only letting up 1 earned run. INTENSITY was missing one of their TOP Pitchers Sunday but proved to be extremely deep without her as # 3 showed great off speed and variations to keep EVERYONE off balanced.
Can't wait to see what this team will do with another 4 months of HITTING Development under both Howard Carrier & Bill Lilley as well as Defensive Skills Development under Bob Hoiles(Kobata-guru)occurring before Travel Season. YIKES!
# 2. Pittsburgh Lady Roadrunners
Offensive powerhouse, that showed that working proper HITTING MECHANICS pays off. Might rank higher if Good Pitching was GREAT pitching. They looked like they were playing kickball, as a non-stop continous popping of their bats echoed thru Dix Field House. Unfortunately, I did not see them have to make many defensive plays when I was watching to comment on their defense.. so for now they get the benefit of the doubt. Word on the street is, no more Bigtrain instruction(should be interesting to see if they can maintain what they've learned.)^_^!
#3. OH Classic
A nice SURPRISE to many. A young 13u team showed strong pitching and ability to put the ball in play and force opponents to catch & throw, which on Sunday equated into victories as opponents committed lots of errors. Defense seemed to be solid. Also seemed to have above average team speed.
#4. Doom 95:
The most experienced team in OH 14u coming off a 33rd at ASA Nationals and a Fall 18u Gold experience and several 16u tournies also. As always, showed GREAT pitching, even when not at 100%. However, still having trouble fielding(3-4 errors) and scratched only 1 hit vs. Intensity while collecting a few hits from Classic.
Tie @ 5. Lady Irish & Jaquars:
Both seemed to have balanced teams with solid pitching, defense, and hitting.
6. Thru 10 in no specific order: (Seemed equal talents, if anyone has more info on these to further rank have fun.
- OH Bomber Lop sided loss against Intensity, but could only field 8 players, so possibly still an unknown.
- OH Roadrunners (DID NOT SEE, only heard they lost 1 or 2)
- OH Warriors (Saw some, had some bats, but pitching / fielding appeared average.
- OH Emeralds (Saw some, had some bats, but pitching / fielding appeared average.
