Now that the season is reving up, when is it "OK" to start talking to (other team's) players about next year. I had one of my players approached already.
Did they offer up any gas money? ?That might be the deal maker.
Seriously though, I think it is way too early. ?Some might say "the early bird gets the worm" but it sounds like a coach has already given up on some of his players and we are just beginning the travel season. ?This should send up a red flag.
Next season starts for most teams in August, so I would say right now is not a bad time. Most are just throwing it out there that they would be interested in having that player with them next year. I say this assuming that person recruiting is acting like an adult and just telling the player what they can offer, not bad mouthing the team the player is playing with this year.
I have posted many times about my disgust when a girl is approached to jump teams during the season.
However, I don't really have a problem when the discussion is basically "We would love to have you come to our tryouts in August. We think you could make a positive contribution to our team."
It is not a matter of giving up on existing players. Most teams have some turnover every year, and letting players know now that there is an interest is reasonable.
if your daughter is a player, better get used to it, its gonna happen, and i agree if someone just says hey why dont ya come out after this season and give us a look.... no harm done, dosent mean ya have to go and the kids take it as a compliment
If your talking this spring and you mean high school ball then the other coach could be in trouble.
They are not supposed to recruit for high school players
Just ask all the football team that have been suspended from the playoffs for recruiting
