Buckeye Heat 95 goes 2-2.

First pool win over Wizards-Bastidas, during which our bats caught on fire and we had 17 hits.

Second pool was a loss 5-4 to Championship Fastpitch. We left 9 runners on base and didn't play our best defense; against a team like Championship Fastpitch, that's not going to produce a win.

First bracket was a 6-5 loss to our sister team Buckeye Heat - Clark. Bats were ok, although again we stranded quite a few. We had a few key defensive lapses that, again, we can't afford against a talented team such as Buckeye Heat - Clark.

In the losers bracket we won against Buckeye Heat - McGhee. So we live to see another day.

Please send prayers or other positive energy to Amy McGhee who delivered a little boy this morning. Because he was a bit early, they are keeping him in neonatal intensive care. We are sure that he will be fine, but the positive thoughts of this big Ohio fastpitch community couldn't hurt. And to Amy and her husband:

CONGRATULATIONS!

When we left, Heart of Ohio Explosion was leading in its Winner's Bracket game over Wizards Eisenbrandt. Don't know what was happening with the other winner's game, which was between Buckeye Heat 94 - Clark and Championship Fastpitch or in the other loser's bracket game, which was between Wizards Bastidas and Diamond Chix 16u. Hopefully someone will report those results soon.

First of all CONTRATS TO MY FRIEND AMY, the coach of the Buckeye Heat McGee 16U. The Buckeye Heat "nation" loves you and wishes you well... What is the little guys name?

The Buckeye Heat 94s beat the Buckeye Heat 95s 9-1 and the Championship Fastpitch 10-2 today. Will face Heart of Ohio Explosion in the championship game.

Congrats to Heart of Ohio Explosion, who won 11-3 in the Championship game. Explosion is the real deal and will represent Ohio well in Chattanooga.

Also big time congrats to Buckeye Heat 94 Clark, who beat us with certainty this morning. Also a great tournament for Championship Fastpitch.

Thanks to Marty Drain for a very well run tournament and for whatever "in" he has with the weather gods, as there was no rain whatsoever at the Toledo CYO fields. Or maybe it is that statue as you enter the the fields?

Definitely things for Buckeye Heat 95 to work on this week and we have confidence that we can get our groove back through that hard work. On the bright side: six home runs over the weekend, 3 by Chelsea Raker, 2 by Kylie Gross, and 1 by Tori Chirdon. These players also had significant production of singles and doubles, so it wasn't a matter of gunning for the fences, more that they hit the ball right in the sweet spot with their regular swings. That's very encouraging.

Thanks Jim. Another shout out in the toughness category to the Buckeye Heat 94. -- 8, 13 and 21. Their pitchers played hard through injuries that last game.

Kids had a Geat weekend 67 hits. Plus like to thank Liz our sub for helping us play this weekend missing players.
Our team would like to thank the players, parents and coaches of Championship Fastpitch. Coach Murph what class your team showed. We lost two pitchers to line drives in this game , with some scarey moments. Players, parents came up to see if the girls were ok. It is more than about softball and Coach Murph's team showed the highest of sportsmanship! Explosion is a very good team and would still love to play you when we are not the walking wounded.

First of all, I hope those pitchers are ok - wow - scary moments for sure. Great guts showed by your team to hang in there and get the win. So yeah, we think the HOH explosion are good also and we should know, having played them 4 times already and only getting one of those in the win column. I guess we will not see them at states! Congrats to a very deep team and well coached with an awesome catcher!

As far as CF, I am very proud of the girls. We had a great Saturday going 4-0 and learned our lesson on Sunday that you have to keep that intensity every play or it can go south in a hurry. Still have that goal to get to Nationals! I will say this, I had a great Fathers Day weekend!

Same here, one Tie and two losses to the Explosion. One tried to pitch against the Explosion and just couldn't hit her spots due to her wrist being swollen, One couldn't pitch at all due to the elbow was still swollen, and our catcher/pitcher has a sore arm, pitched most of the game against the Explosion. We were asking around to see if any of our other players had pitched any in high school , just in case we had to go that route.
One pitcher took a line drive to the elbow. One pitcher took a line drive the deflected off her wrist to her face. Some nervous moments.

Every Region gets 2 berths and it appears only 1 was awarded here. If so, what is Region 9 doing with the other berth?

I believe that it is being awarded through the Strongsville tournament. Cleveland Metro no longer exists and I think that in exchange for continuing its tournament over July 4, a berth was given to this tourney. But your question makes me ask myself, "where did that 2nd berth get awarded last year?" You know far more about this stuff than me, so maybe you can tell us whether the fact that Cleveland Metro existed last year meant that Region 9 last year only had one berth.

Cleveland Metro doesn't appear in the 2010 ASA Code, so it ceased to exist as an association after 2009.

Ohio ASA has 5 association berths which reconciles with 4 berths at State and 1 at 'Clev Metro'.

I only followed the 14u berths last year and read the regional wasn't held because Maddogs was the only team entered. Maddogs was awarded the berth, but they ended up not using it.

Every region gets 2 berths that are separate from the 1 berth for their National Qualifier.

So if each region has 2, why did dayton and toledo only offer 1? Did the rest go to states? So for 16u......

1 at Dayton
1 at Toledo
1 at Shreve
4 at States
1 at Strongsville

Any others?

Dayton is a metro association that allowed all Ohio teams to enter. Many/most regions award both their berths at the same tournament.

Local Associations:
Cincy Metro 1
Dayton Metro 1
Ohio State 5 (4 States & 1 Strongsville)

Regional: 2 (1 Toledo & 1 ??)

National: 1 Shreve
