Has anyone had success using resistance bands to build arm strength in players for underhand (pitching) or overhand motion?

One of my girls teaches pitching and she is evaluating Monica Abbott's system now. I will give you any feed back she gives me. I just got it two weeks ago while at the play offs in Akron.

Resistance bands have been known to be effective and have been used by alot of softball players from little league all the way to national teams. Bands are very good for rotator cuff and shoulder exercises.

I use these all the time on my pitchers. Better to be pro active than reactive when it comes to strengthening the muscles around the rotator cuff. You can get them in varying resistance levels. So those that are young can do the exercises without too much risk of injury with proper supervision.

I wouldn't let a 10 year old lift weights but I will let them do the bands. As long as I am sure they are doing the proper exercises to work the rotator cuff. Make sure you learn and understand how to use them to help your DD.

Easy to make out of Surgical tubing. We have one that is attached to a softball with a loop on the end. When the dd injured her foot they had her using the tubing tied to a post , pulling with her leg.

I still have a bunch of different bands of varying resistance from when I had to PT my shoulder (arthritis) last winter. What specific exercises do you recommend for increasing a pitcher's arm strength?

SBFamily Where have you found the surgical tubing? Would it be effective to use to work a pitchers legs for explosion drills from the pitching rubber?

My oldest DD is a Nurse. But you can buy it at most Medical supply stores. It is cheap .

You can also go to Marshalls and sometimes TJ Maxx and get a box of bands for 10.00.

If you are interested check out Alan Jaeger's "Thrive on Throwing" DVD. His throwing program is very good and the DVD has a stretching / strengthening exercise routine for the arm and shoulder that uses resistance tubing. Nothing strengthens the arm better than long distance throwing done correctly. IMO

Our dd's pitching coach has started our 13-year-old on stretching exercises to strengthen her upper body to protect against injuries. this is her first full season as a serious, full-time pitcher.

We started out to get the stretching bands, but ended up getting the MVP pitching bands.

Yes, bands are good, but make sure you know how to use them. Might be appropriate to consult local trainor to make sure your DD understands exercise and progressions.

Those in Northern OHIO should engage Kris Lewandoski @ SPI(Sports Performance Institute) as he is absolutely fantastic at evaluating and designing personal performance programs for dds.

AGREED i train and work with kris and have been for over a year. I'm slow to begin with (lol) but my speed has actually improved a lot, same with my overall strength. He works with some of the best athletes in Ohio. Trains at the Premier
****** Academy facility in Lorain aswell as in Akron. I highly suggest looking into it.....Oh ha and we use resistence bands..alot.. they kill but they're worth it! lol
