BRISTOL, Va. — Ridgeview’s Hunter Grant had one of her biggest hits of the season Friday. Grant singled in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Camdyn Sykes and give the Wolfpack a 5-4 victory over Wise Central in the consolation game of the Mountain 7 District softball tournament. Ridgeview secured the district’s second seed and a home game in Monday’s Region 2D quarterfinals. The Wolfpack are scheduled to host Virginia High, the third seed from the Southwest District. The loss was a devastating one for Wise Central. A win would have earned the Lady Warriors a spot in the regional tournament. The loss dropped Central behind Gate City in the district’s point system, giving the Lady Blue Devils the Mountain 7’s fourth spot in the regional field. Gate City, which lost to Central in the opening round of the Mountain 7 tournament, is scheduled to travel to Lebanon on Monday for a Region 2D quarterfinal. CONSOLATION WIN Weak defense from both teams marred Friday’s Mountain 7 consolation game. Ridgeview committed four errors but managed to take advantage of five Central errors. Grant finished 2-for-3, including the game-winning RBI for the Wolfpack, and Nikole Counts also finished 2-for-3. Bailey Frazier had two RBIs, including a solo home run in the fifth. For Central, Olivia Mullins finished 2-for-3 with a sacrifice and two RBIs and Hanna Carter had a two-RBI double. BASEBALL CONSOLATION In the Mountain 7 District baseball game, Central rolled to a 17-7 win over Ridgeview. Both teams qualified for the Region 2D tournament next week.
