Running a Catcher Over

Being a Catchers dad, they do need to know positioning and what would and wouldn't be called against them. But anyone worth their weight as a coach, should teach their runners the proper rule as well without being malicious. If you are teaching malicious methods, then you as an individual have no class.

I have seen Blues out there not hesitate, call the out and follow it right up walking over to the coach and state, "coach, she's done for the game" >:(

If you add a suspension for the next game, for any ejections, you may see more sportsmanship out there.

Bottom Line--- It's about the girls people.......

I have no problem with the rules as they stand, but I'd like to add one. Ejection of anyone who has been called for obstruction twice in one game. At some point, the girls who obstruct - whether intentionally or unintentionally - need to understand the rule and that they are going to get themselves or a baserunner hurt by their not knowing the proper way to play the game.

WOW! I just read this thread, and I am just shocked! I think there's some good info in here, and then there is some absolute trash. I just can't imagine teaching my catcher to "make contact" for intimidation purposes! Holy crap! This is kids playing, albiet really good kids, they're still kids. I've coached for the last 7 or so years, and I would never teach a kid that or allow a kid that plays that way on my team. When I hear people say that parents are what ruin kids sports, I think this is the perfect example. It's an absolute shame!

geez, man chill out people. it was a good topic. i have been a fastpitch coach for 7years and many of you will know me as soon as you see me. my oldest dd is a catcher, and she is a pretty tough kid, but i couldnt get her to harm a fly. these topics can be touchy sometimes, we have never intenionly hurt anyone. if a player gets banged up with her, she will be the first to go ask if she is ok, and vice versa, many players have checked to make sure she was fine as well. the post was getting boring so i thought i would spice it up. im now a 10u coach again, all of our players know do not block the base without the ball. and my catchers is still learning the basics of catching, catch step throw. in and out of the baselines on the bunt throws ect.. but i liked the response about my ty cobb post. but if there any any coachs that really like to hit kids in the kiddneys, remember this, i teach my kids to pull that inside pitch down 3rd. sorry about my spelling..

i hope this will serve as my fessing up.. im not psyco.. nor a goon. im a ten u coach who loves his team. i would never hurt a child or adult player, and i would never even think of teaching a kid that. so any 3rd base coach that told her to take out that player was not even close to me. we play hard, but we play fair. win or lose, so i hope this admitting has help ease the minds of some others on here that may have been upset. coach bill.

Coach Bill if i noticed the constant nudges at the plate I would warn the catcher once, Unless I deemed the nudge malicious then there would be no warning. And if I knew that you teaching and directing her to do it you would be gone. That is just dirty.

Geez Coach Bill-relax maybe you shouldn't have made the comments in print, online that you did regarding teaching catchers to nudge or make contact everytime if you don't want to hear what people have to say. That is all part of life. Spazzing out just makes you sound worse than you have already come across. Makes me glad I don't have a 10U daughter that would come up against you and your team. Plus it's not like this was from years ago just a week or so. Take a deep breath and try to be nice.
