Greenville moves to 9-0 on the season with another shut-out win during their first game of the East of Chicago event.
Pitcher Kyli Gunkel goes to 8-0 on the season with 5 more shut-out innings before handing the ball to Soph Alyssa Comer to finish things up. ?
Side note: Greenville sets a school record with their 28th straight victory including last season. During their state championship run in 2007 the GreenWave won their final 20 games of the season and now the first 8 of the 2008 champaign. No team in any sport in school history has ever accomplished that.

Greenville moves to 10-0 on the season wrapping up a great saturday at The East of Chicago tournament.
Once again Pitcher Kyli Gunkel dominated with a 2 hit 7 inning shut-out. She improves to 9-0 on the season and has been looking stronger every game. Ms. Gunkel also had a stellar offensive day as she broke a 0-0 tie in the 4th inning with a bomb over the left center field fence. It would be all the offense that she would need but the GreenWave added a few more with Kyli driving another run hom in the 6th inning on a blast that ended up being a double. Freshman Tabby Enicks who has taken over for Justine Shilt this season had another two hits in the game and continues to impress.
Defense ruled the day as Greenville had two outfielders make diving (layout) catches to end innings. One was made by CF Macie Blinn and the other was made by Alyssa Comer. Anyone who thought that this years team would slip with the loss of the 6 seniors from last year has been surprised. This team has proven to have more offensive firepower then last season and the pitching and defense are right where they left off at the end of last year.
Who are the teams to beat this year in D1 at this point in the season. I would think that Greenville would have to be considered at this point even though they are new to D1 this year.
Without a doubt N. Canton Hoover is the team to beat. Something like 6 DI signees already on that team. Also from the Cincinnati area there is Colrain, Lebanon and from the Dayton area Northmont is very solid this year. Any of those three teams could make a long run.
As for Greenville they have transitioned back into DI just fine after a two year stint in DII. they are back to being a small fish in a big pond but I think that they like it that way. Currently they are at 10-0 on the season and have a winning streak of 29 wins in a row. In fact it has been more then one year since they have lost a game so they continue to have something to play for each and every game.
