Your thoughts on what actions I should take following a D-1 Scout's interest in my Dirt Diva. How should I follow up? Is it proper manners to write a thank you note or a letter regarding our interest in their school? Should we be calling the schools or is this just bugging or nagging the coaches? Any opinions are welcomed and appreciated.

One thing you don't want to do is call them a scout.

Well, for starters, you shouldn't be following up with anything. That's DD's responsibility. And I agree with The Natural, stay away from the term "scout."

Sending an email to the coach and thanking him/her for their interest is always prudent. And I would suggest sending the email to the entire coaching staff and not just the head coach. Phone calls don't hurt either as long as you understand that, depending on DD's age, they may not be allowed to return your calls yet.

As suggested send e-mails to the entire coaching staff. Also do your research on the school. Do they have the major that your DD has shown interest and current GPA. Look at the current rooster to get a better understanding for their needs for your DD's position. Look at their record for last year and state to the coach that she can make a difference in meeting the challenge of winning the conference and going to World Series. Understand the conference they are currently playing. Find out when their camps are and make a statement that you will be attending one or all of them. If you are going to watch them play this fall or next spring state that in the e-mail. Visit the campus and make sure it is someplace your DD is comfortable in being at for the next 4 years. Have your travel ball coach call the head coach to find out the level of interest. My DD followed this process that helped her in getting offers from DI and DII schools. Understand that the head coach gets a ton of e-mails. The assistants are usually the ones that read the e-mails.

It is a lot of work but it is worth it in finding the right school and playing environment for your DD.

I'd say first make sure you know what "interest" really is in behalf of the D1 coach. Was it in the form of an email inviting her to camp? Was it that she asked DD's coach some questions about her? Did she send DD an email that said "tell me what I t will take to get you in a uniform for (insert college team) in (fall of DD's freshman year)?

The THIRD example is true interest.

You shouldn't do anything in terms of contact other than provide your daughter with some guidance. She should be doing the work. The college coach does not want to hear from you--they are recruiting your daughter, not you.
