Season Ending Injury

I just wanted to send a HUGE Thank you to all the teams, parents, and players at the Strasburg Summer Bash tournament this past weekend. My DD was attempting to beat out a throw to first base, when she planted her left foot on the base, she heard a pop and collapsed to the ground unable to move her left leg, after a quick exam, EMS was called and she was transported to Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio.

She was diagnosed with a possible tear of her hip flexor muscle. We went to see the Ortho Doc at OSU Sports Medicine this morning, and they determined that she has an avulsion fracture of the anterior, inferior and superior iliac spines which is where the hip flexer muscle is attached, she is out for 12 weeks.

While we were waiting for EMS, all the families, known and unknown, teams waiting to play, players and everyone else, helped pack up our stuff and shoveled it in to our trailer so that we could go to the hospital, what a great statewide softball family we have here!!!!!

After 3 hours we returned to the fields to watch our teams final game, to which we lost to the Diamond Dogs in International Tie-Breaker extra innings 9-8 in the semi-final game, it was over whelming to see the Diamond Dogs players and Coaches come to the dug out to tell her Good Game and extend a huge "get well". The Teams waiting to play the championship game giving her time to exit the dugout and wishing her the best as well. She said that she was so happy to be a part of a program that is so awesome that even though she dosn't know them by name she knows them on the field and we are all sisters!

The love shown by the the Marion Diamons '96 team is what it's all about. Thank you to all of the girls, coaches, and parents for all the support and love... 3,2,1 Diamonds... you know...

Special Thanks to Marion Diamonds 16U Sheplers Team , Caitlin E, and Makalya M, for being there to carry her around!!!!

Thanks again Ohio Softball Teams and continue to be supportive to ANY one that gets injured while playing this sport that our DD?s Love!!!!!

Sorry to hear the bad news about the injury. We had to play your team in the game following the injury. Your team was very inspired. They all had the #4 written on their arms and would draw the number 4 in the batter's box upon entering to hit. Good group of girls and very good ball players. Wish you luck and a speedy recovery!!! Does anyone know the condition of the 14u Valley Force pitcher who took a hard line drive to her pitching hand earlier in the day? I saw this happen and it looked pretty serious. I hope she is ok and is back playing soon. She has a very very good change up. One of the best I've seen...

rhm0547,

The girls told her about the #4 on the arm, we didn't know about the drawing #4 in the box, when she read that last night her eyes swelled up and tears came there after. She is devistated that she is out for the season, but she assured me that she will be back, along road to travel but she she said she is up for the hike. Thanks again to everyone, and for the well wishes.

Wishing your DD a speedy and complete recovery. Just remind her that it could be worse....it could be a career ending injury. It happened to my DD; rotator ended her college career prematurely. Good Luck!

Thank you everyone... We go back to Ortho Doc on July 7 see if she can loose the crutches. She woke up saturday morning said she was going stir-crazy, to we drove to Courtland to watch her team in the ASA 14U States. Although she tried to cheer them on they just didn't play well, I guess they lost their bats over the week. She said on the way home... "Man I just wanted to throw these crutches in the trash can and get on the field and help." ... I told her I know your pain... just give it time to heal, and work hard in rehab and you will make a difference next year. She said... "That's like 360 some days away. Whatever..."

I think this is every parent's worst nightmare with their daughters playing sports. Good luck on the healing process.

We are going through the same exact thing right now. DD broke her foot during HS practice just 2 weeks after coming off an MCL sprain. So, she lost most of her HS season and probably all of her summer season. What was suppose to be 7 weeks will turn into almost 12 by the time we go back to the doctor. It is very hard for her to sit the bench and watch. It's not as hard when they are winning, but when they are losing she wants to be out there helping. She was the "starting" pitcher for this team and now when the girl who has come in to help out is struggling she just really wants to get in there and help. This is definitely a character builder for not only her but the whole family. It is hard to go and cheer on other girls and then look over at yours to see her cheering but know that she really wants to get out there and play.

Good luck to your daughter. She sounds strong and will come back better than ever, but it's important to listen to the doctor and what her body is telling her. Let her know that she's not alone. That on the Central Ohio Ice 16U there's a girl with a broken foot and a girl with mono going through the same thing. Keep your chin up!!

Met with the Doctor last Thursday, said she doesn't want her running on it until aug 9, However she can start stretching and light exercise Tuesday. Met with Strength and Conditioning Coach last night. He is confident that by Mid Sept she will be back where she used to be before the injury. But really looking forward to how she will work and get stonger and faster, to be ready for QDN at Kent State in Januaary 2012 provided she is selected.

She knows that it is going to be a hard and sometime painful recovery, but like she said last night, "no time like the present, to get hot and dirty, no pain, no gain."

Cant wait to see Kristin on the field again! We have missed her this summer! Our little purple girl!

DD had her first training with the Strength and Conditioning Coach, he was amazed at how much range of motion and flexibility she has. He said she looks good, and working on getting her quad stretched out from non-movement for 6 weeks, maybe 2 weeks of stretching and working the muscle, then start getting it stronger.

Thanks Mike... She has really missed it too.

Well as of yesterday the Ortho doc said she is healed, She is working with the Speed/Strength /Conditioning Coach now. Working her way from Jogging to Sprinting over the next 9 days. If no pain at all, may resume full training. She is planing on takeing at least two weeks to get back into the swing of it so to speak, So it looks like around the first of Sept she will be at least back to her old self before the injury, and as she continues to work and train over the winter, will make her stronger and faster. She is so happy to be out and running again. and we were 6 weeks early in her healing process.

Looking forward to getting back on the fields for Fall Ball!!!!
