second baseman footwork on bunts

My second baseman is having trouble taking throws from infielders after fielding bunts. ?She is a freshman who is generally playing very smooth, but has a few errors on these throws. ?Part of the time I think the throws are outside, and she is forced to take the throws with runners in her vision. I have told to concentrate totally on the ball.

My question is, do any of you have your second baseman take the throw with her right foot on the bag like a first baseman, or how else would you do this?

Thanks

Mark,
After attending a Howard Kobata clinic and receiving his defensive skills tapes, I have the second baseman approach the bag very aggressively with her RIGHT foot. and pivoting inward to receive the throw. ?This would be just like a first baseman would take the throw.
Many repetitions will be needed to break old habit of going to bag with left foot, but what you will eventually notice is by receiving with right foot on bag they will have more mobility to go after balls that might not be thrown right to the bag. ?Another added bonus is that they are now in a better throwing position if they need to throw the ball to third, they won't have to take that extra step or pivot to throw the ball to the next base.
Howard Kobata's defensive videos are money well spent!!!

Did you get the bats you were looking for? How are the girls hitting this year?

I tried teaching this coverage according to Kobata but my finding was that few 2B players have the speed to get to 1B on a bunt play in time to use the right foot and pivot.

So, in order not to have the 2B leave position before the bunt is for sure a bunt and not a slap thru the 2B hole, I concluded that using the left foot was best.

Certainly if you have a player at 2B who is savvy and very fast, the Kobata technique is more advanced.

However, if you want the average decent player to get to the bag in time, every time to provide a target as soon as the bunt is fielded, using the left foot may be a more realistic solution.
