super replies from everyone ---looks like NSA/ASA and TD's might need to rethink how weekend tourneys are ran. going to a longer time limit seems reasonable. 85-90 min instead of 70-75 ?? MD

Joe, normally I agree with everything you are saying, but I disagree in changing the way you coach because other teams do it. The old saying two wrongs don't make it right. I believe if my team is good enough to win, they will win the right way, respect the field they play on, they will run on and off. I have actually been told by umpires that if a team runs on and off, they notice that. Now i am not saying that umpires are partial towards one team or another ;), but i have seen where maybe a close pitch would go our way in that game.

Anyway, all I am saying is if we start to teach the girls to run and off the field, maybe it becomes the norm. The teams that don't well hopefully they will be called out on OFC.

One more thing, I know its a different game, but I still play adult slowpitch and we get 7 innings completed in 1 hour, and believe me, at our age, we are no longer running on and off the field!

Let all of the coaches on this board make a stand, make the girls run on and off the field, lets see if it make a difference!

I don't know if I want all my kids, especially the pitchers and catchers to be forced to sprint on and off the field in 80-90 degree weather in an 8 game gurantee tournament just to meet a 70 minute time limit.

This game is not a sprint. I could go along with a 90 minute and or the tie breakers for the tournament setting as I think it is reasonable to finish most games in that time and if not finish it off with the tie breaker. It is of no advantage to play more short inning games than to play less full inning games. It used to be this way until tournaments wanted to advertise these 5,6,7,8 game gurantees which sounded great until you found out they were probably not regulation.

I don't like the time limit rule, because of all the game playing that it causes. We had an umpire tell us , if our girl hadn't swung at the first pitch the time would have expired and they wouldn't have started the next inning. So it's not only getting on and off the field, you can tell your batter to take three strikes and step out of the box to slow down a pither that it quick pitching so that her team gets another at bat.

spirit, running on and off the field doesn't necessarily mean sprinting.

Blue got that one wrong. The next inning starts immediately after the last out of the previous inning, not when the first pitch (or strike, in this case) is made.

It was RED. and it's the same umpire that we had other issues with, that I posted under tournament section. We won the game so it didn't matter. He was going to start a new inning, as long as the last out was under 1 hr and 15 min's. He had one minute left . We played one more complete inning. This was the first tournament we played under USSSA, rules and being allowed to bat eveyone was somewhat confusing..
