Most of the colleges are telling us to use Youtube and do it yourself.

In the last few months I’ve received calls from several college coaches about a player of mine who put her video on YouTube. Seems like a pretty popular thing these days.

Question for those doing it.... are there any privacy concerns?

Just a suggestion: I strongly urge getting an honest second opinion BEFORE posting your video to You Tube. You might do more harm than good.

Sammy,

May I ask why? You tube not safe?

I think what he means is that it's always best to make a good first impression. If you just throw something together to get it on U-tube it could close alot of doors.

I too have had several calls about my players who have their vids on youtube. I also post their videos on our website. We also help them get their vids on college recruiting sites such as berecruited.com, prechamps.com, ect.

I highly recommend berecruited.com. Easy to use and alot of coaches seem to look at it. We took our own videos and had an experienced friend edit it. Very short clips 2-3 min. of different skills, ex: first base, catching, hitting(in cage).

Actually, if you look at a lot of the You Tube videos, they're BAD. Trying to be too cute. Poor audio. The girls talking too fast to understand what they're saying. And my number 1: pitchers just whipping the ball without identifying the pitch.

My two cents worth.....

I have had several people tell me that they are using You Tube and have been contacted because of it. I think that if your just fishing for ANY college this would be a good way.

We encourage our girls to select specific schools and contact them directly. We have setup profile pages on our website for each girl that is interested. Those that have videos have them linked to their page.

I have my players choose 3 colleges to focus on primarily which we really go after, but I don't want them to put all their eggs in 3 baskets either.

I tell them to keep all options open and never take anything off the table.

Thanks for the good words Chris !

And a very GOOD 2 cents! Exactly my point.

You Tube is an excellent tool to use. It's convenient and easy, both for the players AND especially for college coaches. The coaches can be literally anywhere and view the video - even on their smart phone device. This is the wave of the future.

The problem is that people don't realize how much s-l-o-w-e-r their kid looks on video! I've seen SO many You Tube videos where the kid has absolutely NO INTENSITY! It looks like they're just lazily going through the motions. I've seen 10 minutes of a kid swinging a bat with NO PERSPECTIVE of the pitch location, or where and how far she hit the ball.

To me, this is like sending a poorly formatted, poorly worded, typo laced resume to an employer and expecting to get positive results! If I can see how bad some of these video look, think about what a college coach is thinking.

Please - get another opinion from a good coach or maybe even a college level player. Listen to them, and correct those flaws. Have your DD watch it and ask her if she feels it's representative of her BEST effort. Find out what views the college coaches really want to see.

There is no reason you can't do the video yourself, but don't put out a poor representation of your DD! If you do use a "service", they should give you assistance with picking clips that make your DD look her best.

As a example, I was just watching a high school age catcher (not from Ohio) in her skills video on You Tube. Fielding bunts, I timed her at 3.2 - 3.5 seconds from bat contact to 1st base glove contact. That will NEVER get a college slapper out! Just no intensity getting out of her crouch to go get the ball. You gotta go GUTS OUT!!! The sad thing is she KNEW a bunt was coming! In an actual game, you have to be ready for anything.
