Actually, if you look at a lot of the You Tube videos, they're BAD. Trying to be too cute. Poor audio. The girls talking too fast to understand what they're saying. And my number 1: pitchers just whipping the ball without identifying the pitch.
My two cents worth.....
And a very GOOD 2 cents! Exactly my point.
You Tube is an excellent tool to use. It's convenient and easy, both for the players AND especially for college coaches. The coaches can be literally anywhere and view the video - even on their smart phone device. This is the wave of the future.
The problem is that people don't realize how much s-l-o-w-e-r their kid looks on video! I've seen SO many You Tube videos where the kid has absolutely NO INTENSITY! It looks like they're just lazily going through the motions. I've seen 10 minutes of a kid swinging a bat with NO PERSPECTIVE of the pitch location, or where and how far she hit the ball.
To me, this is like sending a poorly formatted, poorly worded, typo laced resume to an employer and expecting to get positive results! If I can see how bad some of these video look, think about what a college coach is thinking.
Please - get another opinion from a good coach or maybe even a college level player. Listen to them, and correct those flaws. Have your DD watch it and ask her if she feels it's representative of her BEST effort. Find out what views the college coaches really want to see.
There is no reason you can't do the video yourself, but don't put out a poor representation of your DD! If you do use a "service", they should give you assistance with picking clips that make your DD look her best.
