The Lions reached the NAIA National Championship Opening Round for the second straight season behind back-to-back Golden State Athletic Conference Championships. Vanguard entered the postseason with the second most wins of any team in the country and were the first to reach the 50 victory threshold finishing with an overall record of 50-12 overall record and 14-6 in GSAC competitions. This marks the second highest win total in program history as the 1998 team went 51-13.
