Does anyone know of a list somewhere that consists of all softball clinics being held either now or indoor during the winter? I'm a Director of Softball for a rec organization in Marysville and have a lot of people looking for clinics around us.

Thanks for any help! :)

The Ohio Wave will host a Mega Coaches Clinic in December 2008 at The Academy.

At this time we have in attendance:

Howard Kobata (Fielding)
Bill Hillhouse (Pitching)
Dave Paetkau (Hitting)

We may also add one more. We are looking for a catching instructor to be part of the Clinic as well.

Last year this was a big success and we are pleased to offer it once again. Registration form will be available soon on our new Academy website www.insidetheacademy.com

This will be an all day event. Space is limited so be sure to register early.

No idea what qualifications you are looking for in a catching instructor but Cindy Bowles of Homeplate Academy (Cincinnati) played four years at Miami U as a catcher and coached at several colleges, Michigan I know is one. Great with kids. If interested she can be reached at 513.289.3443 if this helps.

I have never seen anything compiled on all clinics and I search for them frequently.

The best method I've used is to go to Shane Yeater's (Lady Knights --> mid Ohio Bullets) team site and use his list of college links and check the sports camps at each individual college. Another method -- sometimes this forum has them in the college section also but usually not.

Let me know if you find a faster method.

If you follow the College General posts below they will be posted. Shayne and I get e mails from colleges before they post on here, because one time of another our kids went to the camp.. Most college web sites have clinics posted. The one that the Ohio Wave mentioned is top notch. Others you are throwing away good money. I will give you two that you can find on the college web site , close to you that I will attend. WSU in Dayton and OWU in Delaware Coach B and Coach Cunningham have good camps. Some are just after your money!

If anybody gets the chance to work with Howard Kobata, don't miss it. He comes to Ohio several times a year from California, so keep your eyes and ears open. There is no one better!!

Thanks for the link to howards site

The wave clinic looks to be a coaches clinic, I'd be looking for a players defensive clinic.

Thanks

OP Ohio Wave ended up having to put off the Coaches Clinic that had Kobata, Hillhouse, and Paetkau because the timeing was not very good just one week before Xmas. We held it last year and had a nice turn out.

I do highly recommend Howard Kobata to anyone who is serious about the game of fastpitch especially if they intend to play on a higher level. Actually you need a player (or group) to go thru about 4 or 5 sessions with Howard to really begin to grasp everything but you will find that players get what he is teaching right from the beginning. One problem that I see is how the players maintain the same intensity at most practices doing Howards drills. If the coaches do not get what he is really teaching then the players will not get solid follow-up work. Coaches need to actually attend one of his coaching clinics so they can grasp what needs to be taught. Howard alone is good, but not enough, the players need to be able to continue the work with a coach that gets it. I had my assitant coach, my own 25 year old daughter (who was an excellent fielder in HS) go thru two seperate 4 hour sessions with Howard and she is able to help reinforce the main points to our players. Sge also gained a ton of respect by being able to hang for both sessions.

One thing Howard does for most players that attend his lessons is it shows them just how hard they have to work at the skill of fielding. I have not seen anyone who can match his level of knowledge and the unique ability to get it across to the players.

We will have Howard in sometime in FEB, and one or two sessions may be open. I will post it as soon as it is confirmed.

NOTE:
We do however still have Dave Paetkau (Hitting Instructor) coming the weekend of Dec 19th thru the 22nd for one hour player lessons and a 3 hour coaches clinic on Sunday morning (Dec 21st) 9:00am to 12:00 noon. If you are intersted in attending please contact me at ohiowave@woh.rr.com or call at 937-603-6136.

Kobata will overwelm you at first. My first clinic I had 7 pages of notes and walked away confused. It took a few more and watching my dd do the drills to understand how to get his points across. He is INTENSE, so plan on a high energy level if your dd is attending one of his camps.
