[Softball] Lady Bleu Devils Win 3rd Straight, Cruise Past Philander-Smith College 3-0

(New Orleans) The Dillard Lady Bleu Devils won their third straight game in two days, defeating Philander-Smith College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon on the "Battlefield" in Dent Hall.

With the victory, the Lady Bleu Devils evened their regular season record at 8-8 overall and are now percentage points from being tied for third place in the GCAC Conference standings with a record of 3-2.

The Lady Bleu Devils were unchallenged in the victory over Philander-Smith College. From the opening moments, the Lady Bleu Devils completely dominated the Lady Panthers.

In the first set, the Lady Bleu Devils raced out to an early 6-1 lead, fueled by five straight points on serve by Monica Barros De Alcantara. The Lady Bleu Devils were punishing the Lady Panthers at the net throughout the set, leading 18-9 before coasting to a 25-10 victory.

In the second set, the Lady Bleu Devils allowed Philander-Smith to capitalize off their team errors, which kept the score close throughout. Monica Barros De Alcantara continued her stellar play, scoring five straight points to catapult the Lady Bleu Devils in front for good and on to a set victory of 25-17.

In the third set, Jessica Goods-Morris took control the net offensive and defensively, helping give the Lady Bleu Devils a commanding 16-5 lead. For the rest of the set, the Lady Panthers posed no threat and the Lady Bleu Devils won the set 25-8.

Jessica Goods-Morris had a game-high 10 kills and 3 blocks for the Lady Bleu Devils. As a team, the Lady Bleu Devils had 23 kills and 25 assists in the victory.

The Lady Bleu Devils will now have the week off before hosting SUNO on the "Battlefield" in Dent Hall on Saturday, October 15th at 7:00p.m. It will be a critical conference match-up for the Lady Bleu Devils.
