RANCHOS PALOS VERDES, Calif. — The SDC softball team were on the wrong end of two close games against Marymount California University on Monday.

The Hawks lost 1-0 in Game 1 and were unable to keep their lead in Game 2, falling 7-5. With the losses, the Hawks fall to 6-12 on the season.

In Game 1, the offense was at a premium for both teams as both starting pitchers exceeded. Madelyn Jacobs allowed just four hits in her six innings allowing the run with a strikeout. On the other side, the Hawks were able to get only one hit, a single from Bailey Romano in the fourth inning.

In Game 2, it didn't take long for the Hawks to surpass the previous games' hit total. Singles from Romano and Tori Harris gave them two in the inning. Romano tallied the RBI single scoring Joselle Nicolas.

SDC tallied four runs in the second inning off of four hits. Montana Potts scored from an error by the Mariner infielder before Harris singled home Emily Espino. Romano later tripled deep down the left field line scoring Harris and Nicolas for the 5-1 lead.

Marymount matched the four-run inning from the Hawks in the third inning and later took the lead in the fifth inning with an insurance run in the sixth.

The Hawks had the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh but Elizabeth Wilson lined out to the pitcher to end the game.

Romano led the game with three hits and three RBI. Noemi Farfan threw the complete game allowing 10 hits and four earned runs with two strikeouts.

SDC will be back home on Wednesday as they host Lindenwood University-Belleville for a DH starting at 11 a.m.
