After a quiet first game from the Montreat Cavaliers at the plate in a 1-0 defeat, the Cavs made up for lost time by registering 22 hits and forcing three Bluefield Rams' errors in the field for an 8-0 second game victory on Saturday.

Game 1 (Bluefield 1 - Montreat 0) (Seven Innings)

In a game one pitching duel, the Rams (9-18, 6-14) pushed across a single run against starter Cailin Warner (SO/Portland, OR) but it proved enough as their hurler, Laken Sparks pitched a gem and registered the win. The hard-throwing Warner helped her own cause by delivering a hit at the plate, while striking out three on the mound and throwing out three Rams' runners.

In the first, Montreat (14-27, 9-10) received hits from Mikki Shelton (SO/Old Fort, NC), Aly Woody (SO/Marion, NC), Warner, Abby Swilley (SO/Riceville, TN) and Bree Powell (SO/Belmont, NC) but couldn't push a run across.

Game 2 (Montreat 8 – Bluefield 0) (Seven Innings)

Abby Swilley (3 IP) Ronnie Ellis (SO/Augusta, GA) (2 IP), and Allison Moody (SO/Belmont, NC) (2 IP) combined to twirl a seven-inning gem for the Cavaliers on their way to a convincing 8-0 second game victory.

At the plate it was a hit parade for the Cavaliers led by Woody, who went 5-for-5 and scored two runs while batting second in the Montreat order. Ashlyn Vickers (JR/Ellenboro, NC) went 3-for-5, drove in four runs, and belted a home run while batting cleanup for the Cavaliers. Behind Vickers in the order, Malyn Nocera (SO/Knoxville, TN) played catcher, and went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs. Balancing out the order was third baseman Marissa Romeo (FR/Huntersville, NC) batting in the #8 spot and delivering three hits for the Cavs.

Rounding out the Cavs' hitters were Shelton (2), Kelsey Nolasco (SO/Casa Grande, AZ) (1), Abby Swilley (2), Tori Hill (2), and first baseman Morgan Meredith (SR/Coalfield, TN) with a base hit.

All in, Montreat pounded 22 hits and didn't let up in the field as they played seven innings of errorless softball. Meredith had 12 putouts at first as Swilley/Ellis/Moody kept the ball on the ground and zeroes in the run column against the Rams.
