[Softball] No. 4 Southern Oregon Upsets No. 1 USAO at NAIA World Series

SPRINGFIELD, MO – The top ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (57-3, 36-0 SAC) and No. 4 Southern Oregon University (50-7, 24-3 CCC) battled hard on day two of the NAIA Softball World Series. The SOU Raiders were able to upset the Drovers with a 4-0 win, as they sent USAO to the elimination bracket.

The Raiders were able to get on the board first, scoring once in the bottom of the second inning. SOU extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third as they scored a pair of runs. Southern Oregon added another insurance run in the fourth inning with a solo-homerun to left-center. The Raiders were able to hang on to the 4-0 lead until the final out of the game was recorded.

Kristen Prieto (JR/Moore, OK) collected half of USAO's hits as she finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Falon Howell (SO/Duncan, OK) and Dakota Clouse (SR/Blanchard, OK) each recorded singles in the loss.

Emily Cerny (SO/Newcastle, OK) suffered the loss as she pitched the first 3.2 innings of the game before being relieved by Falon Howell. Cerny allowed four runs (three earned) off of seven hits and she struck out one batter. Howell pitched 2.1 shutout innings and did not allow a hit in her strong relief appearance.

The Drovers will now prepare to face the winner between No. 5 Lindsey Wilson and No. 7 Mobile on Monday, May 27 at 2 PM CT in Springfield, MO.
