Can anyone tell me how many people they've had accept an offer to play for you then leave your tryout and go to another one only to come back 2 days later to tell you that they aren't playing for you. Had that happen on 2 occasions with a possible 3rd.

Found one parent has accepted ours, but ask another team about a tryout on this forum. It really gets frustrating.

So is it only me or has it happen to others?

It happened to me 1 time this year...... Dad played the "We're new to the whole try-out scene. Our daughter joined her team late last year, so we don't really understand all of this". Player was offered and accepted, THEN went to try-out for last seasons team, AND another. Ended up accepting with the 3rd team. Last years manager and I are friends. He thought she was returning to him. As all the parents talk about all the coaches, we all talk about the problem parents. We see you coming and know about you most likely before you get to us.

That's the only time it has happened to me though.

Had it happen to my team this year . Two players committed to us and after all try outs were completed they called me and said they both decided to go to another team together . This caused a major snowball effect on my team , long story short we lost all our starting pitchers and had to fold the team ! Makes me mad when people give you their word and then back out ! I'm told this happens all the time ( grass is always greener ) !

It happened to me this year. Actually right after our first practice after the try-outs were over. I didn't put her in the spot that she thought she should be at so (per her parents) found a team would play her there.I had girls going everywhere as it was the first practice. Not sure if it was a scare tactic to make me cave, but I just wished her the best of luck and kept going.

No one is guaranteed a certain starting spot on my team.Every practice and game is a try-out. I feel bad for that family if the other coach actually did promise that. He probably has 3 number starting pitchers as well.

It's always going to happen. I have been doing this for so long and have noticed that every family that acts shady has a hard time finding a stable team due to the word getting out that they will quit on you anyway so don't waste your time looking at them during try-outs.

This is a little different. The best coaches have spots they are looking to fill. If you were "trying kids out" make sure the parents are fully aware. Too many times parents see what they want to see and do not understand why a coach makes the decisions they do. I am not saying what happened here was wrong just that you have to get the parents on the same page and "buy in" to your program. I get the whole "every practice is a try out".. However you have to set expectations and the fear should not be used as a motivator because of the negativity perceived from the parents. Parents who act emotionally or irrationally are probably better off leaving.

You dodged a bullet coach, a family that would leave after one practice because of where their kid was working out are going to be pains all year, and most likely not successful in athletics lol
