[Softball] Salgado, Escalera, and Bonde Earn All-KCAC Softball Honors

WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2018 all-conference softball awards. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head softball coaches. Sterling had three Lady Warriors selected to the lists: Dominique Salgado (SR/Sylmar, Calif.), Miranda Escalera (JR/Santa Clarita, Calif.), and Tiana Bonde (SR/Los Alamitos, Calif.).

Dominique Salgado was named an All-KCAC Second Team first baseman for Sterling. At the end of the season, Salgado led Sterling with a .415 batting average, which was 3rd in the KCAC. She finished the season a team high 56 hits, including a team high 15 doubles and a triple, while collecting a total of 33 RBIs and two stolen bases for the Lady Warriors. Salgado also ranked 27th in the NAIA in Doubles per Game and finished 40th in the NAIA in Hits per Game.

Miranda Escalera was named an All-KCAC Second Team third baseman for the Lady Warriors, finishing the season with a batting average of .393 (9th in the KCAC). Escalera ended the year with 55 hits, including 12 doubles, a triple, and six homeruns, while also adding a team high 44 RBIs (4th in the KCAC) and two stolen bases. Escalera ranked in the Top 50 in the NAIA in a number of categories including RBIs per Game and Hits per Game.

Tiana Bonde was named an All-KCAC Honorable Mention utility player for SC. Despite missing games due to injury, Bonde had a strong season, finishing with a batting average of .373, while racking up 31 hits: four doubles, a triple, and six homeruns. She also added 21 RBIs to finish out her career as a Lady Warrior.


The Tabor College Bluejays are the regular season champions, ending the season with a 25-18 overall record and a 17-5 conference record, earning head coach Suzanne Unruh KCAC Coach of the Year by her peers.

Ashley Stone of Oklahoma Wesleyan University earns the KCAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards following a regular season where she hit a 0.424 average, 53 hits, 52 RBIs, 30 runs, and 10 home runs. Madison Byrd of Tabor College (1.79 ERA) earned KCAC Pitcher of the Year, while Breanna Vest of Friends was named Newcomer of the Year.

The following athletes were selected by conference coaches as All-KCAC First Team, All-KCAC Second Team, Honorable Mention and Gold Glove Teams.
