LA VERNE, Calif. — Playing just their seventh and eighth games of the season, thanks to plenty of postpones due to rain, the Hawks made their way to La Verne for one of their makeups on the season.

SDC split with the Leopards, falling in Game 1 on a walk-off, 4-3 decision, before winning the nightcap 10-4.

The Hawks are now 5-3 on the season.

In Game 1, the Leopards scored first in the fourth inning. SDC tied the game up at 1-1 in the sixth. Kayla Mack doubled home Montana Potts from second. Potts gave the Hawks their first lead of the game with a 2 RBI double to left center scoring Elizabeth Wilson and Emily Espino.

Leading 3-1, La Verne added three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Hawks.

Potts led the team with two hits and two RBI. Madison Bostick was tabbed with the loss going 6.1 innings allowing 11 hits and five runs with five strikeouts.

Game 2 was much more favorable for the Hawks. SDC scored two runs in the first, four in the second and a run in the third. The Hawks scored their seven runs off of just two hits. There were two throwing errors and a bases-loaded walk to round out the runs scored.

SDC added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh. La Verne committed four errors and outhit the Hawks. Potts tallied two more hits in Game 2. Noemi Farfan earned the win thrown the complete game allowing 11 hits and four earned runs. SDC left 13 runners on base.

The Hawks open up GSAC play on Tuesday at Hope International.
