ATHERTON, Calif. — After a crazy 12 hours, the Hawks were able to take Game 1 against Menlo on Saturday before falling in Game 2.

The Hawks played the day before in Sacramento against William Jessup at 5 and 7 p.m. before making the quick turnaround playing at 11 in Atherton.

With the split, SDC sits at 10-19 on the season and 2-10 in the GSAC.

In Game 1, the Hawks were able to score first. Bailey Romano singled to center field that score Montana Potts. But the Oaks responded quickly in the bottom half of the first with three runs to take the 3-1 lead after an inning.

SDC answered in the top of the second with two runs. Potts drew a bases-loaded walk and Tori Harris singled on a bunt scoring Alicia Corona.

After Menlo scored a run to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth, the Hawks were able to force extra innings. Kaylyn Rubalcava, with one out, hit an RBI single to center field which brought Romano home for the tying run. The Hawks almost took the lead but a play at the plate went in favor for the Oaks for the second out of the inning. Elizabeth Wilson flew out to left with the bases loaded.

In the eighth, Josie Nicolas broke the tie with a single to right field scoring Wilson for the game's eventual winning run. After the runner was placed on second, Madelyn Jacobs got the batter to pop out for the first out followed by consecutive strikeouts to secure the win.

Game 2 started off well for the Hawks as they scored two runs in the top half of the first. Potts scored on an errant throw before Emily Espino's single through the left side scoring Nicolas. But that's the last time the Hawks would score in the game as the Oaks scored in every inning but the fourth.

SDC will get back on the diamond on Wednesday as they host Simpson University.
