[Softball] SLC wraps up season-opening Florida trip

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Silver Lake College softball team concluded its season-opening trip to Florida today.

Although the Lakers came up short in their 10 games at the PFX Spring Games, the student-athletes are working hard and continuing to improve their skills.

This is the first year SLC has fielded a softball program in many years.

The Lakers were led offensively this past week by junior Hannah Severin, who had eight hits during the 10 games and leads the Lakers in batting average (.381), on-base percentage (.409) and slugging percentage (.571). Throughout the week she had five singles, two doubles and a triple, as well as one walk, three runs scored and two RBI. She also threw 2 2/3 innings, striking out one batter.

Freshman Brooklynn Jarrell is second on the team with a .286 batting average. She compiled six singles throughout the week in addition to two walks and one run scored.

Sophomore Tori Jonet handled the majority of the pitching duties, throwing 41 innings and striking out 18 batters. Offensively, she also drove in a team-high four runs this week, to go along with four singles, two walks and one run scored.

Freshman Mya Eh Paw had the third-most hits on the team this week with five (all singles).

Sophomore Jannin Pineda Funes recorded three hits, including two singles and one double. She also drove in one run, scored twice and walked three times.

Freshman Alexa Mohr had one single and one double, while also scoring twice and walking once.

Freshman Angie Kudick also had two hits (both singles), as well as three walks and one run scored.

Also contributing for the Lakers at the PFX Spring Games were sophomore Elizabeth Turner (four walks, one RBI), freshman Paige Boden (one single, two walks), freshman Naw Da Say (one single), freshman Julia Naze (one run scored) and Daysi Perez-Ramirez (one plate appearance).

The Lakers next play Trinity Christian College on March 23 in the Chicago suburb of Palos Heights, Illinois. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 3 p.m.
