[Softball] Softball Drops Pair to (RV) McPherson

Doane Softball traveled to McPherson, Kansas, on Monday to take on the Bulldogs after the games were postponed from Saturday. McPherson, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, picked up a pair of wins over the Tigers, 11-5 and 7-4. The Bulldogs moved to 7-2 on the season while Doane dropped to 2-6.

In game one, McPherson scored in each of the opening five innings with multi-run innings in the 2nd and 4th innings. Doane scored single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings before plating three runs in the 5th inning.

Tayler Mashburn (SR/Centennial. Colo.) drove in two runs to lead the Tigers. Doane had 10 hits in the game, two apiece from Kailyn Wiseman (JR/Sutton, Neb.), Megan Elliott (FR/Simi Valley, Calif.), and Jade Hill (FR/San Diego, Calif.). Elliott led the team with two runs scored, one coming off her third home run of the season.

Breanna Hamilton (SR/Windsor, Colo.) started in the circle for the Tigers, taking the loss as she allowed five runs on four hits in 1.2 innings. Emily Haines (FR/Folsom, Calif.) allowed five runs on four hits in 1.2 innings with Station Charters (FR/Severance, Colo.) throwing 2.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits.

In game two, Doane took a 3-1 lead by plating three runs in the top of the 5th. McPherson answered back with five runs (two earned) in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.

Hill drove in two runs and scored a run for the Tigers. Erika Herrera (SR/Corona, Calif.) was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Elliott and Mashburn added two hits apiece as Doane finished with 12 for the game.

Josie Schnakenberg (JR/Wahoo, Neb.) threw 5.0 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on 11 hits with two strikeouts. Charters recorded the final three outs, posting two strikeouts.

Doane will travel to Oklahoma for two days and four games starting on February 22.
