Bartlesville, Okla. – The Friends University Falcons won a pair of close games in sweeping past the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles today (Apr. 10) in Bartlesville, Okla.

The Falcons held on for a 7-6 victory in the first game when Ashley Stone, who had just doubled in three runs to make it a one-run game, was thrown out at home by Shelby Belloni (JR/Lakewood, Colo. ) on a single by Kaylee Clinton to end the game.

Friends had just got a timely two-run homer by Mackenzie Nichols (JR/Columbus, Ohio) in the top of the seventh that provided two insurance runs and a four-run lead.

Kaelyn Smith (SR/Tuscon, Ariz.) put the Falcons on top with an RBI double in a two-run first inning before Isabella Gonzalez (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) and Breanna Vest (JR/Fayettevile, Ark. ) each doubled in a run to spark a three-run fourth inning.

The Lady Eagles then answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

Maci Walker (SR/Mansfield, Texas) started and went the distance in the opening game for the Falcons, giving up six runs and striking out four.

Nichols had two hits and three RBIs in the first game, while Vest and Smith also had two hits.

In the nightcap, the Falcons got off to another strong start with five runs in the first two innings.

But the Lady Eagles again came back with three runs in both the third and fifth innings to force a 6-6 tie.

Friends then responded with the go-ahead run in the sixth and another in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Vest.

Alicia Dunagan (JR/Douglass, Kan.) made it stand with a scoreless sixth and seventh frame in the circle to earn the victory.

An RBI single by Kennedy Brunson (SR/Garden City, Kan.) and two-run single by Renee Downey (SO/Modesto, Calif.) contributed to a four-run first inning for Friends and Smith singled home one run in the second.

Kylie Fox (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) then chased home Gonzalez with a single in the fourth for the Falcons.

Fox, Smith and Downey each had two hits in the second game win for Friends (17-17), 8-2 KCAC), with Stone driving in three more runs for the Lady Eagles (18-15, 6-4 KCAC).

Heather Breslin (SR/Anchorage, Alas.) started for the Falcons and went four innings, striking out three and allowing four runs (three earned).

Reaghan Burris (SR/Larned, Kan.) then tossed one inning, with one earned run allowed.

The Falcons will now gear up for an important two games against Tabor College on Thursday (Apr. 12), who is just ahead of the Falcons in the KCAC standings with a 10-2 conference record. The first game is set for 5 pm at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
