Chickasha, Okla. – The Friends University Falcons made things interesting in the second game of their season opening doubleheader at the No. 2-ranked USAO Drovers, but came up just short in falling 4-3 today (Feb. 12) in Chickasha, Okla. The Falcons also dropped the first game 6-1.

Trailing 4-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Shelby Belloni (SR/Denver, Colo. ) started the inning with a single and later scored on a two-run single by Hannah Lang (FR/Topeka, Kan. ) that also plated Kat Davis (FR/Keller, Texas) to make it a one-run game.

With the tying run now at second, USAO starter Falon Howell induced a groundout to third to end the rally and finish the win for the Drovers.

The Falcons had jumped ahead in the first when Belloni also singled and scored on a groundout by Davis.

USAO tied the score in the bottom of the first and then took the lead as a two-run single by Karlie Velasco keyed a three-run fourth frame.

In addition to Belloni's two hits, Davis and Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) also had a pair of hits in the nightcap for the Falcons.

Alicia Dunagan (SR/Douglass, Kan.) started the second game for Friends and lasted four innings, giving up four runs with one strikeout.

Ashlyn Jacobs (SO/Wichita, Kan. ) then blanked the Drovers over the next two innings.

In the second game, Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) started for the Falcons and pitched two shutout innings before an RBI single by Kristen Prieto put the Drovers in front in the bottom of the third.

Alyson Clemence then powered a five-run fourth inning with a three-run, inside the park home run that broke the game open.

Isabella Gonzalez (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) singled home Lang in the fifth to account for the Falcons' lone tally.

Gonzalez's single was one of her two hits in the opener for Friends.

Walters struck out six during her six innings in the circle and allowed six runs.

Summer Leitka pitched a gem for USAO, striking out 15 batters and surrendering only one run on three hits.

The Falcons will next compete in the Mustang Meltdown at Central Baptist College this weekend (Feb. 15-16) in Conway, Ark.
