WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons charged back late to defeat the Tabor College Bluejays 9-8 in the second game to come away with a split tonight (Mar. 26) at the Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita. Tabor took the opening game from the Falcons 6-4.

In the nightcap, the Falcons' rally began with consecutive singles by Makenzie Nichols and Renee Downey to start the eighth inning. Pinch runner Hunter Kincaid later scored on a wild pitch before pinch runner Erica Baca crossed the plate on a double by MiKayla Keeling.

Kat Davis then delivered the blow of the game, smacking a two-run double to score Keeling and Hannah Lang while Kylie Fox came home with the winning run thanks to an error.

Davis also helped preserve the win with her glove, making an outstanding catch in right field for the second out of the seventh.

Bobbie Flores would then close out the game with a great snare at third base to finish the victory and give Hali Walters her second save of the season.

Isabella Gonzalez and Fox each singled and scored in a three-run first frame for the Falcons to begin the second game. Belloni singled in Gonzalez and Fox was plated on a sacrifice fly by Kat Davis.

But the Bluejays came right back with three runs of their own in the second inning before busting out with a four-run third frame, capped by a two-run single by Alicia Lopez.

After the Bluejays extended the lead with a run in the fourth, Fox produced an RBI double that chased home Belloni to trim the Tabor lead to four runs.

Davis had three RBIs and Belloni went 3-of-4 for the Falcons. Gonzalez, Fox and Nichols each had a pair of hits for Friends in the second game.

Ashlyn Jacobs came out of the bullpen and went 3.2 innings, allowing just one run (none earned) with three strikeouts. Walters struck out one in the seventh inning of the nightcap.

Sierra Becerra had three hits for the Bluejays in the second game.

The opening game saw a three-run home run by Shanae Strate in the fourth increase a 3-2 Tabor lead into a four-run cushion.

A solo homer by Downey in the bottom of the fourth and then another tally in the fifth cut the Bluejay lead in half, but Madison Byrd halted the Falcon rally with scoreless sixth and seventh frames.

Downey had two hits for the Falcons and Nichols hit a solo blast in the second inning.

Byrd helped her own cause with two hits for Tabor, while going seven innings and giving up two earned runs with six strikeouts.

Walters fanned nine hitters during her seven innings in the circle, with three earned runs allowed and no walks.

The Falcons will next be in action Saturday afternoon (Mar. 30) at Ottawa University, with the two games set for 1 pm.
