Great Bend, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons split two games in their first day competing in the KCAC Postseason Tournament today (May 3) at the Great Bend Complex in Great Bend, Kan.

The Falcons won big in the opener, 11-1 over the University of Saint Mary Spires before being shut out by the Tabor College Bluejays, 6-0.

In the first game, Breanna Vest (JR/Fayettevile, Ark. ), named the 2018 KCAC Newcomer of the Year earlier today, smacked her team-leading eighth homer of the season, a two-run blast in the first inning to give the Falcons the early lead.

Following a sacrifice fly by Isabella Gonzalez (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) in the second inning, the Falcons exploded for eight runs in the fourth to break the game wide open.

The Falcons got two RBIs each from Kylie Fox (JR/Wichita, Kan. ), Shelby Belloni (JR/Lakewood, Colo. ) and Renee Downey (SO/Modesto, Calif.) to power the frame that sealed the victory.

Maci Walker (SR/Mansfield, Texas) was the starter for the Falcons against the Spires and gave up one run with three strikeouts over her 4 2/3 innings.

Heather Breslin (SR/Anchorage, Alas.) then came on and got the final out in the fifth inning for Friends.

The Falcons managed only three hits in the second game against Tabor, while the Bluejays got a 4-of-4 performance by Brittany Vankonynenburg and three hits from Kerrigan Travens.

Tabor scored a run in the third and then pulled away with a four-run fourth frame.

Kennedy Brunson (SR/Garden City, Kan.) had two of the three hits in the second game for Friends.

The Falcons will now play McPherson College tomorrow afternoon (May 4) at 1 pm in an elimination game.
