McPherson, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons defeated the McPherson College Bulldogs 8-3 to gain a split of the twinbill today (Mar. 24) in McPherson, Kan. The Bulldogs shut out the Falcons 3-0 in the opening tilt.

Shelby Belloni (SR/Denver, Colo. ) had three hits in the second game victory and scored the Falcons' first two runs, starting with a first inning RBI double by Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) before crossing the plate on a single from Savannah Jackson (FR/Ramona, Calif. ) in the sixth.

Belloni then drove in Isabella Gonzalez (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) to ignite a six-run seventh inning for the Falcons that broke the game open. Kat Davis (FR/Keller, Texas) followed that by singling home two runs before scoring on a base hit from Bobbie Flores (FR/Riverside, Calif. ).

Cassie Jones (SR/Erie, Colo. ) capped the big frame with a bunt single on a squeeze play that plated Flores.

Alicia Dunagan (SR/Douglass, Kan.) blanked the Bulldogs through six innings before being charged with three runs in the seventh. Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) came in and got the final three outs to finish the win.

Dunagan had three strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in the winning effort.

Brittany Baroni also turned in a solid start for McPherson, going six innings while also giving up a pair of earned runs with three strikeouts.

Jackson, Fox and Flores helped fuel the Falcon attack with two hits apiece.

Walters also pitched well in her first game start, giving up just three runs to the Bulldogs while fanning seven hitters over six innings.

But Christie Betker held the Falcons (10-13, 3-3 KCAC) scoreless in a complete game win and also struck out seven for McPherson (14-11, 3-1 KCAC). Betker allowed just two hits, both to Davis.

Betker got all the offensive support she needed when Kylecia Taylor hit a two-run single in the second inning.

Taylor then scored the Bulldogs' third run on a base hit by Maile Deutsch in the fourth.

The Falcons are next set to host Tabor College Tuesday night (Mar. 26) at 5 pm at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
