WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons and Newman University Jets split a doubleheader today (Mar. 6) in Wichita. The Falcons took the first tilt 6-1, with the Jets responding to clip Friends 4-3 in the second game.

With the opening game tied 1-1, the Falcons caught fire in the fifth, scoring four runs behind a two-run single by Isabella Gonzalez (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.). Hannah Lang (FR/Topeka, Kan. ) and Cassie Jones (SR/Erie, Colo. ) also drew bases-loaded walks in the frame, while Savannah Jackson (FR/Ramona, Calif. ) singled home Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) for the first run of the inning.

Jackson then added to the lead with a sacrifice fly to score Shelby Belloni (SR/Denver, Colo. ) for her second RBI of the game.

Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) tossed a complete game gem in the Falcons' win, fanning 11 batters and blanking the Jets over the final six innings.

The nightcap saw Kylie Fox, this week's KCAC Player of the Week, stay hot at the plate with a three-run blast in the first inning to put the Falcons on top.

Newman answered in their half of the first when a two-run homer by Jamee Compton capped a three-run frame of their own and tied the score at 3-3.

Then in the sixth, the Jets got an RBI single by Lauryn Ogden that proved to be the game-winning tally.

Lang had two hits for the Falcons, while Emma Eck also produced a pair of hits for the Jets.

Alicia Dunagan (SR/Douglass, Kan.) surrendered four runs and struck out one in her six innings in the circle for the Falcons.

Bailey Bugner got the win and struck out two with three runs allowed over seven innings.
