WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons and Hastings College Broncos split a twinbill today (Mar. 8) at the Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita.

The Falcons blanked the Broncos 9-0 in the opener, but came up short 9-8 in the second game.

Friends got a run in the first inning of the opening game before breaking the game open with five runs in the third and three more in the fourth to finish the run rule win.

Isabella Gonzalez (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) singled home two runs to put a cap on the third inning explosion, with Savannah Jackson (FR/Ramona, Calif. ) and Renee Downey (JR/Modesto, Calif.) also producing RBI hits.

A two-run single by Jackson and another run-scoring hit from Downey in the fourth inning helped the Falcons seal the victory.

Downey went 3-of-3 in the first game victory and Jackson had two hits in her two at-bats. Kylie Fox (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) also scored two runs for the Falcons.

Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) pitched five sharp innings in the shutout win, striking out five while allowing only one hit.

The second game also looked good for the Falcons (7-8), as they answered a four-run first frame by the Broncos with two in the first and then five more tallies in the second to take the lead.

But the Broncos (4-6) responded with a run in each of the third and fourth innings and grabbed the lead back with a two-run fifth inning.

After the Falcons tied the score in bottom of the fifth, the Broncos scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth.

Jackson had three more hits with three RBIs in the nightcap, with Kat Davis (FR/Keller, Texas) and Ericka Baca (FR/Arlington, Texas) each driving in two runs.

Weather permitting, the Falcons are scheduled to play again tomorrow (Mar. 9) against (RV) Baker University at 1 pm and then No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University at 5 pm.
