WICHITA, Kan. – The Tabor College Bluejays found a way to record a pair of one-run wins tonight (Apr. 12) over the Friends University Falcons at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.

The two wins keep the Bluejays in the top spot in the KCAC at 12-2 in the league, with the Falcons now in a tie for second-place with Ottawa University with identical 8-4 conference records.

The opening game featured a solid pitching duel that matched up the Falcons' Maci Walker (SR/Mansfield, Texas) and Tabor's Madison Byrd.

The only run of the game came in the eighth inning as a result of the international tiebreaker when Dani Calder, who started the frame on second base, scored on a sacrifice fly by Arizona Schraeder.

The Falcons had a chance to tie or win in the bottom of the inning with runners on second and third and one out, but Byrd got a strikeout and fly out to finish the win for Tabor.

Walker allowed only the unearned tally in her eight innings in the circle, striking out two and walking none.

Byrd was also up to the task for the Bluejays, going eight innings with no runs allowed and eight strikeouts.

Isabella Gonzalez (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) had three of the Falcons' five hits in the first game.

The nightcap would prove to be equally as tough of a setback for the Falcons, as the Bluejays staged a two-out rally and plated the go-ahead run on a single by Kerrigan Travens that scored Byrd.

The Falcons had just came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull even.

Shelby Belloni (JR/Lakewood, Colo. ) tripled home Renee Downey (SO/Modesto, Calif.) with the first run, who then crossed the plate with the tying run on a single by Kennedy Brunson (SR/Garden City, Kan.).

After allowing one run in the first inning, Heather Breslin (SR/Anchorage, Alas.) settled in and surrendered only one more earned run over her next six innings of work. She struck out two and allowed four hits overall.

Following her win in the first tilt, Byrd came on and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save for the Bluejays (20-15, 12-2 KCAC).

Kylie Fox (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) had hits in both of her at-bats for the Falcons (17-19, 8-4 KCAC) in the second game.

The Falcons will next host Kansas Wesleyan University Monday afternoon (Apr. 16) starting at 4 pm.
