WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons recorded a sweep of the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes tonight (Apr. 16) by scores of 9-5 and 10-3 at the Two Rivers Youth Complex in Wichita.

"It's always good to get a win on Senior Day," Friends head coach Tony Segovia said. "We thank these players for all they have done here at Friends University."

After falling into a 2-0 deficit in the opener, the Falcons got going in the third and scored four runs to take the lead for good.

Moriah Kayhill (SR/Ottawa, Kan. ) started the inning with a bunt single and scored the first run on a single by Shelby Belloni (JR/Lakewood, Colo. ) and RBI doubles by Kylie Fox (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) and Kaelyn Smith (SR/Tuscon, Ariz.) followed to put the Falcons in front.

Smith came home with the fourth run of the frame when Emily Escobar (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Falcons then got RBI singles by Smith and Belloni in the fourth and fifth innings before Breanna Vest (JR/Fayettevile, Ark. ) went deep with a two-run blast in the sixth to break the game open.

Isabella Gonzales singled home Kennedy Brunson (SR/Garden City, Kan.) later in the sixth for the Falcons' ninth run of the game.

The Coyotes plated two runs in the seventh before the Falcons registered an out, but reliever Reaghan Burris (SR/Larned, Kan.) got a fly out and a double play to finish off the win.

Maci Walker (SR/Mansfield, Texas) was the Falcons' game one starter and went six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) and striking out three to notch her 10th victory of the season.

The Falcons sported a balanced offensive attack in the opener, getting two hits from five different players, while Lindsay Maryon went three-of-four for KWU.

Vest's bat produced again in the nightcap, doubling home Gonzales and Fox in the bottom of the first. The Falcons added another run in the inning when a groundout by Renee Downey (SO/Modesto, Calif.) plated Smith.

In the third inning, Maryon picked up where she left off in the first game and smacked a three-run homer to center to tie the score at 3-3.

It didn't take long for the Falcons to regain the lead, as Fox doubled to lead off the bottom of the third and scored when Smith hit a double to trade places with her.

Vest wasn't through contributing and knocked in two runs with a double in the bottom of the fourth and an error resulted in two more runs that stretched the Falcon lead to 8-3.

Belloni then keyed a two-run fifth frame by doubling in Gonzales and then stealing home on a double-steal with pinch runner Cassie Jones (JR/Erie, Colo. ).

Vest had two hits and finished with four RBIs in the second game for the Falcons, with Gonzalez going three-of-four and three runs scored. Fox also scored three times for Friends.

Heather Breslin (SR/Anchorage, Alas.) started the second game for the Falcons (19-19, 10-4 KCAC) and pitched six effective innings, allowing three runs on five hits along with six strikeouts.

Alicia Dunagan (JR/Douglass, Kan.) then came on and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the win.

The Falcons will next be right back at home and host Southwestern College Wednesday (Apr. 18) starting at 5 pm.

"We were coming off a couple losses and these players responded with two good games today," Segovia said. "We'll enjoy this one for a short wile and get ready for Wednesday's games vs. Southwestern."
