WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team fell twice on Wednesday evening at home to non-conference opponent St. Mary of the Woods.

AU lost game one 8-0 and dropped game two 6-0.

Asbury will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon at home against Midway at 1 and 3 PM.

Game one

After leading 1-0 in the second, the Pomeroy's had a big third inning where they tacked on five runs to lead 6-0.

In the following inning, Saint Mary of the Woods scored twice more to lead 8-0. AU was unable to respond, and the game ended by mercy rule in five innings.

Asbury had trouble building consistent offense all evening and committed four errors in the field.

The Eagles recorded four hits in the loss and stranded four runners on base.

Paige Hill and Madison Moss were the only Eagles who collected hits in the game. Hill notched two singles and Moss posted a single and a double.

McKenzie Meyer started the first game and tossed three innings. Deana Phillips came in for relief in the final two innings of play.

Game two

Ally Moore provided four shutout innings in the circle for AU to keep the game scoreless early on.

Asbury had opportunities to advance runners home, but were unsuccessful all game in doing so. In total, the Eagles stranded seven baserunners.

Saint Mary's tabbed the first run of the game in the top of the fifth to break the scoreless tie. The Pomeroy's added another run in the sixth off of an error that led to an inside the park homerun to make it 2-0.

More costly errors lead to four runs in the seventh inning which put the game out of reach for Asbury.

Asbury finished with six hits as a team, while Deana Phillips tallied a team-high two hits with a 2-3 performance at the plate.

Madison Moss, Kamry Wells, Bree Sanders, and Caitlyn Taylor all had one hit apiece. Moss collected another double on the day with her hit in game two.
