LAWRENCEVILLE, Tenn. – Even though the Bryan College softball team had a slow start in their Opening Day series at 5th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday, the Lions were able to make the necessary adjustments and provide the top-ranked Grizzlies a scare in the nightcap. Bryan showed no fear in facing off against one of the country's most dangerous NAIA teams in Georgia Gwinnett, who are coming off a record-setting 53-6 season where the team went on to make their first-ever World Series Appearance. The Grizzlies had six returning starters, including a trio of NAIA All-Americans. While the Lions also have six returning starters, they were able to add a few returning from injuries in addition to some young talented new faces. Georgia Gwinnett impressed with a 20-0 shutout of Bryan in game number one, but the Lions came back in roaring fashion and outhit the Grizzlies 7-3 in the second contest. Despite Bryan's remarkable effort, Georgia Gwinnett was able to escape 1-0 and avoid the upset in capturing the sweep. The twinbill marked the start of both teams' season, as the Lions fell to 0-2 while the Grizzlies improved to 2-0.
