WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Despite coming up short in their pair of opening games at the RussMatt Softball Classic, the Bryan College softball team once again proved they are capable of competing with the best. The Lions have had nothing short of a challenging start to their schedule, which officially began on Feb. 6 when Bryan paid 5th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College a visit. The test continued on Friday when the Lions met up with 11th-ranked Campbellsville University (Ky.) and a highly skilled Warner University (Ky.) squad out of The Sun Conference. Just as Bryan had done in their season-opening series against Georgia Gwinnett when the Lions' tenacity on the field resulted in a one-run ballgame against the top-ranked Grizzlies, they displayed their ability to play at an elevated level when they held another top team in the NAIA in Campbellsville to a 3-1 decision before battling out a seventh-inning showdown with Warner that ended with the Royals walking off 2-1. Even though Bryan is 0-4 overall, the Lions have already seen some of the most difficult opposition they will face all season.
