MARION, N.C. – The Cavaliers combined for 18 hits in an Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep over St. Andrews University Sunday afternoon, starting the day with a 3-2 walk-off win followed by an errorless 8-0 win in game two. Montreat improved to 5-3 in the AAC, 14-14 overall.

"We've moved some people around trying to find some consistency in our batting order, and today we were able to put some hits together and get some wins," said head coach Heather Maston. "We're going to continue to build on our progress to date and hopefully keep climbing in the conference standings. I'm very pleased with how well the team is working together and pushing toward our goals."

Game One: Montreat 3, St. Andrews 2
The Knights took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Montreat answered in the third to tie things up. Bree Powell and Mikki Shelton got the bats going for the Cavs in the inning, Powell with a leadoff single to short and Shelton immediately following with a single through the hole at short. Liana Elliott advanced the runners before Abby Swilley knocked them both in with a single to right.

Things stood even the rest of the game until the final inning when, with two outs, Ashlyn Vickers came in clutch with an RBI double to center to end the game in walk-off fashion.

Destiny Munoz finished 2-for-3 at the plate as Vanessa Bartkewicz, Victoria Hill, and Elliott each also had a hit, totaling nine in the game for Montreat.

Cailin Warner went the distance in the circle for her fifth win of the year, allowing just three hits and striking out seven St. Andrews batters.

Game Two: Montreat 8, St. Andrews 0
Montreat came out with a three-run effort in the bottom of the first inning as Swilley drove in Shelton to get the Cavs on the board before the squad was able to take advantage of a pair of SAU errors as Bartkewicz and Swilley each crossed the plate on a wild throw.

After a leadoff single to short, Munoz advanced to second on an error before stealing third to set up Marissa Romeo for an RBI single to center, giving the Cavs a 4-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Vickers drove in Shelton with a single to left before Hill doubled in a pair of runs. Munoz then knocked in Vickers on a sac fly to end the game.

Charlie Smith threw four innings of no-hit softball before the Knights got their lone hit of the game in the top of the fifth, a leadoff single to short. Smith finished her shutout with three strikeouts.

Up Next: Montreat continues conference play this week when the Cavs host the Koalas of Columbia College this Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
