[Softball-SP] Springfield Splits World Series Openers
DUBOIS (Penn.) -- The Robert Morris University-Springfield softball team opened play in the USCAA Small College World Series on Monday, besting 8th-seed, Penn State University-Schuylkill by a score of 12-3, before falling 9-0 to top-seed, Cleary University.
Prior to first pitch, eight Eagles were recognized by the USCAA for their regular season achievements. Springfield shortstop Melissa Benson (FR/Morris, Ill.) was honored as a USCAA All-American Honorable Mention, as was catcher, Ali Nowicki (SO/Petersburg, Ill.).
In addition, both Benson and Nowicki were recognized as USCAA All-Academic award recipients, along with teammates Dallas Caldwell (FR/Savoy, Ill.), Abby Gilmore (FR/Carrollton, Ill.), Rachel Friesner (JR/Moweaqua, Ill.), Bayley Neece (SO/Neoga, Ill.), Savannah Anzaldua (SO/Glasford, Ill.) and Holly Jones (SO/Greenfield, Ill.).
