COSTA MESA, Calif. — After a run-rule decided Game 1, the SDC softball team was very much in Game 2 against No. 14 Vanguard on Monday.

But unfortunately for the Hawks, the Lions were able to squeak out a win for the sweep.

The Hawks fell 9-1 in Game 1 and 2-0 in Game 2.

SDC was held to one hit in the first game and their run came via a wild pitch. Montana Potts trotted home in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 4-1 game at the time. The Lions scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for the clincher. Potts tallied the only hit in the game for SDC.

Madison Bostick was charged with the loss in the game throwing 5.2 innings and allowing 14 hits on seven earned runs with three strikeouts.

Game 2 was a much closer affair. After three and a half scoreless innings, the Lions were able to get on the board for the only runs of the game. After a sac fly and an RBI single, Vanguard had their runs and kept the Hawks off the board. SDC didn't have a runner past second base all game.

Tori Harris led the team with two hits. Madelyn Jacobs threw six innings in the loss. She allowed seven hits, the two earned runs with a walk.

SDC is back home on Wednesday as they host La Sierra for a DH starting at 11 a.m.
