We lucked out as far as weather goes. There was overcast skies most of the week with some showers, but it kept the temps way down. I am a little late in putting this out, but I just returned home from the rest of my vacation..
We enjoyed a great tournament. The hospitality was received was awesome in comparison to most tourneys we have played at. Most of the teams we faced were interested in softball up north and exicted that we made the trip down to play. We traded gifts and even a coaches shirt with a team from Florida. The girls all thought it was neat.
We opened with a loss to a S.C. team, but we took the next three pool play games and ended up seeded second for Bracket play. We then reached the Finals without losing another game beating the team that put the #1 seeded team into the losers bracket. We ended up facing the #1 seeded team out of pool play, after they came through the losers bracket. Unfortunatley they ended up beating us twice and we finished 2nd for the Tourney. The team we faced was from the host city, the Savannah Indians. They have a strong program around there as both there 12 and 14 teams were in the finals. ( don't know if the 14's won or not)
I read a post earlier about the Disney tourney and how the southern teams hit the ball. Well, I have to agree. We have faced better pitching than what we saw down there, but boy could those teams hit. There were a few batters that we really pitched around to stay away from their bat and you still couldn't stop them always. We did not let them walk away with things though, we held a lead in the first game only to give it up in the late innings and lost 7-5. The second game we provided them a 6-0 lead, but roared back in the 5th to tie it, but only to lose again by two runs, 8-6. In both games we left the bases loaded in the last inning. It just seemed they had one more big hit each game.
The experience was great though and we are very happy with how we played. I hope that everyone who plays can sometime have an experience like that.
