2016 College Softball Scores, Highlights and News

Thought I would start a thread on College softball, seeing that the 2016 season is in full swing now. If you know of any Ohio players or teams doing well...please give them and their teams some props!!

As most of you know I'm a bit partial to the MAC conference, as both my daughter and step daughter both played in the MAC. With that being said, I would like to congratulate Central Michigan on their upset win over previously unbeaten #9 Arizona!!

Lauren Powell, Tennessee State, (Springboro High School) notched her first collegiate win against NKU. 7 innings, 1 earned.

Just a little shout out to Coach Oakley and the young Lady's of Kent State for staying focused and starting the 2016 season with an 8-1 record!!

Lauren Powell, Tennessee State, (Springboro High School) notched her first collegiate win against NKU. 7 innings, 1 earned.

I remember seeing her pitch in a state playoff game vs. Colerain very good stuff. Great job getting her 1st of many collegiate Ws...!

After losing to Alabama and Georgia State yesterday, today Miami of Ohio won against Maryland (7-1) and Mercer (6-5 in 8 innings). Way to come back Red Hawks!

Ohio State (7-3) swept two games yesterday by defeating Virginia Tech 13-0 and Furman University 15-3...

A couple of Ohio girls had an outstanding day!! Cami Prantl (Ashville, Ohio) went 5-5, 2 doubles, a HR and 5 RBI's and Shelby McCombs (Newark, Ohio) went 3-7, a HR, 4 RBI's, 5.2 innings with 7 K's.

A couple of Ohio girls who had an outstanding day were Shelby Tilton (Massillon. Ohio) who went 2-5, a HR and 3 RBI's and Eric Warren (Canton, Ohio) who went 2-4, a HR and 2 RBI's

Alexis Mack (Brecksville '15, Beverly Bandits) is hitting .375 for the South Carolina Gamecocks. She has a .929 fielding percentage and 3 stolen bases so far. Way to represent the Southwestern Conference !!!!

Ohio State's Cami Prantl (Teays Valley/Lasers Scarlet/Bandits) was selected as Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player OF The Week. She went 11 for 14 (.786) with 9 RBI, 8 runs scored, 3 doubles and 2 HR's. She also had a 1.429 slugging percentage and OBA of .824. Congrats Cami...that is one amazing week of softball!!

Tiffin's Samantha Ringwalt (River View/Ohio Road Runners) drove in the winning run Thursday evening in Clermont, FL when Tiffin won 2-1.

Wright State's Pitcher Montana Wear (Felicity-Franklin/Cincy Doom) threw 6 1/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 unearned run on an error in the bottom of the 7th in a tough 1-0 loss to SEC foe Arkansas. On the season, the senior has a 1.36 ERA over 47 innings!!

University of Washington Freshman Taran Alvelo (Bloom Carrol/Carrol, Ohio) continued her hot start with a win over Kent State. She threw 7 innings, giving up 2 hits...running her season record to 9-2 on the year!!

Kent State Senior Arika Roush (Springfield Kenton Ridge) went 1-2 with a HR and a HBP in the same game vs Washington. She has started all 18 games this season for Kent State and is hitting a solid .333 on the year!!

Ohio University Redshirt Junior pitcher Savannah Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio/Bandits) threw a complete game 1 hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Indiana University. She also finished the game with 16 K's!!

Ohio University Junior 3B/1B Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio/Cincy Doom/Bandits) continued her clutch hitting, going 2-3 with a double and 4 RBI's in the aforementioned 6-0 win over Indiana.

In the second game of a double header over in Bloomington, Indiana...Indiana Freshman Tara Trainer (Lebanon, Ohio/Lasers Black) threw her first college No Hitter in an 8-0 win over the University of Evansville. She finished the game with 13 K's.

Elon University (North Carolina) Freshman Pitcher Abby Barker (Granville, Ohio/Classics/Lasers Black) threw the first Perfect game in Elon University history. Abby threw a complete 6 inning game, while not allowing a base runner in a 8-0 win over the Niagara University!!

South Carolina Freshman 2B Alexis Mack (Brecksville, Ohio/Lasers Orange/Bandits) is making an impact with the SEC Gamecocks. She leads the team with a .415 BA, going 22 for 53 with 16 runs scored, as the starting second baseman and two hitter for the Gamecocks!!
