Thanks for your observations chooseone.
Other players with potentially more talent and more skills behaved as though they were destined to be a starting Varsity player because they were a Sophomore or Junior, or from their past travel ball accolades. ?Several behaved as though a Varsity spot was owed to them. ?That's just not the way it works. ?The coaches were aware of lots of potential talent that could be displayed at tryouts. ?
If you are aware of great talent and then saw some errors and a few wild throws, that is just part of tryouts. ?It happens to everyone. ?But day after day, play after play, of no hustle, don't care attitude, won't get you that Varsity Uniform regardless of your level of talent. ?
The saddest part about of it all is that the player in question has absolutely no control over the situation, beyond the fact that she went out and busted her tail for every ball that was hit, every throw she made, and every base she rounded every minute! ?Parents and players get on here, read that post and many will form an opinion. ?Without someone refuting what Vipers said, there is only one side to that story and it is not fair that one player be singled out to deal with that stigma. ?As a Freshman on Varsity, she has enough pressure. ?Maybe she will perform to expectations, maybe not. ?But I will bet that she will continue to out-hustle those players whose parents think they have been slighted.
Also know that a similar situation occurred a few years ago where a player began ripping the cover off the ball, playing outstanding defense, and displaying an outstanding attitude and found herself on Varsity even before the season started.
In the end its all about playing hard all the time with whatever skills you bring to the diamond.
