Spring Break

Our spring break is before our first game. ?How do coaches feel about girls taking off the entire week for spring break? ?After returning, there are only a couple of days to get ready for the first game. ?I am kind of torn on the subject. ?Family trip or committing to the team??

No good program can afford to not play for spring break. It's the sacrifice of playing a varsity sport.

I think that is the best way to put it.

I have 2 starters that have taken off for Flordia this week. One will miss 1 scrimmage and the other will miss 2. They both understand that they will sit out regular season game for each scrimmage they miss.

You can go away over spring break or you can participate in the softball program (at any level) but you can't do both. ?Potentenial players and parents are told this well in advance of making a decision to try out. ?No exceptions. ?Ever. ?No matter how good the player is.

We are a small school and if the girls are on spring break the others are required to be at practice. NO PUNISHMENT. The sad thing is the following week is the Senior trip. Try these 2 back to back 2 weeks no seniors

We are practicing and scrimmaging every day, and we told girls in advance of tryouts that we would be, but we stopped short of saying they couldn't play at all or would be benched if they left. All of our varsity girls stayed for sure, but am not sure about JV and frosh. Am not sure how demanding this commitment would have gone over .....

Our program made it clear to everyone that there would be playing time lost commensurate with days missed at any time and specifically on Spring Break. It is a team commitment and I think it is a fair policy. Some of the programs who have teams that are not real deep would certainly suffer under that policy as the girls they are "counting on" would not only hurt the team from the games missed but also the games they are forced to sit out.

I can assure you that Greenville will be practicing every day this week, plus the Shoot-Out is this coming saturday. There will be time to rest in June (maybe a few days anyway) :)

I cannot see any high school team that is serious about competeing taking the entire week off. There will be no catching up.

What's not being said is,...What girl would even want to leave her team so close to the start of the season? There's no way I would consider taking my dd away from the program so close to the start of the season. It's not about one or two kids, it's about the "TEAM". Excused or not, the rest of the team thinks it stinks. Furthermore, what in the world are the parents thinking? The season starts when pitchers and catchers report to the players are released at the end of the season. Anything less and the parents are not doing their job. It doesn't matter if your a starting senior or a bench warming freshman, it's about committment to the team. You're completely clueless about what is right, (parent/player), or completely selfish and just don't care about the TEAM.

Ours lets the girls go as long as it is a family one with no repercussions. No trips with friends are allowed and it has been that way since we remember our first one playing. Not that we went anywhere ourselves this year, but have in the past.

Now the real dillema will be in June IF---- again, "IF" is the Key word so please do not jump me for anticipating something that hasn't even happened yet. Just stating it could and when something you want to happen but don't want to happen, always happens if you follow...

Our Son's wedding is June 8th... Sister is in wedding and starting Varsity catcher.... Where would she be that week if they were to get that far????? I know where I'd say --- she'd have allot of fans from out of town.... ;) I think Mom would too, but now the bride hmm....

Again it's only if................ :-?

Wow Hilliarddad that is a tough one lol. I hope she gets the opportunity to have to make such a choice but I wouldn't envy her lol. If it happens I would love to hear what she decides to do :)

spring break is always a major issue. some parents are just so stead fast that their child is coming with them on their family's spring break. the coach looks more lightly at that than girls who go off with their friends. normally, at least one day is taken off during this time period. so in the end, they don't miss all that much.
