State ranked/done

NICE!. Thought I'ld see some Cincy Teams righting those state polls. Congrats Mason.

I remember when Ohio State was undefeated back in the late 90's and John Cooper complained and moaned about where OSU was in the polls, much like you are doing. Then OSU lost to MSU and the rest is history.

Northmont surely was deserving of thier state ranking. At this point in the season it takes a lot of luck, and yesterday Mason was both lucky and good. I'd rather be moving on than be state ranked.

With that, where does Lebanon fall in your catagory of "Cincy teams"? They've been state ranked, and deservedly so, all year.

This game was all Northmont for 6 innings (2-0 top of 7), but a couple errors/mental mistakes and the Comets capitalized. Great pitching perormance by Jess Clutter and her catcher Kayla Woodard. Only Juniors, so the Bolts should be able to reload for 2011.

Great year for Northmont and best of luck to Mason.

That past ball on Northmonts catcher in the 7th was the straw that broke there back..

I was just a casual observer yesterday and wouldn't lay blame on any one player, but the two runs that did score reached base by error. You win as a team and you lose as a team. Thats why it such a great and humbling sport.

Again Congratulations to both teams and Good Luck!!

I know everyone is chiming in on the Northmont loss - as an upset - but Northmont never had control - Mason had 8 hits with runners in scoring position for 5 innings - Northmont only got the 2 runs when the umpires walked 3 in a row in the 3rd. Northmont had 3 hits with runners that never went passed 2nd base. TALENT ON BOTH SIDES - but the right team won! Sorry Northmont - this isnt a diss - just stats give the real story!!

Jess is very good pitcher - Fisher on first - Those ballets lessons are really paying off - great splits!!!
good luck to all girls!!!!

GO COMETS!

My wife and I made the comment after the game that Mason was the better team, but Northmont was right there to win it and should have. I can point to several plays that made a difference, too, but walks are a part of the game. I can say that a ball that is short hopped by the Mason third baseman who double plays the girl on first was a huge play that was miscalled by the umpire, but I am not.;& Bottom line, two good teams played and Mason won a game that could have gone either way.

Good luck to Mason.

FYI, Northmont returns Jess Clutter, Kayla Woodard, their CF, LF, SS, and their EH. CLutter, Woodard, and Lander, the CF are all juniors, while the other three were all freshmen. Those were six of the top seven hitters for the Northmont varsity this year. Throw in a JV team that lost one game, and was heavily influenced by a strong freshman class, including one freshman that had 11 over the fence homeruns this year, and I think it is safe to say the future looks pretty good for the Bolts. Looking forward to seeing some of these teams in the future from the Cincy area. Those close games are somewhat nerve racking, but still a lot of fun.

Look for Wayne to be a real strong Dayton area team next year also. Lots of talent returning and well coached too.

Since when are the umpires allowed to pitch in theses games??

This is the ranked/done thread...not the loss/upset thread. I may be wrong but I think Mason was the higher seed.

Either way I don't have a dog in this fight...I just call them as I see them.

FYI Clarification in the third inning the umpires called a strikeout then changed thier minds and called it a walk after the batter took off her helmut and went into the dugout - the batter is out but then went to first after the umpire had a meeting with Northmont - so it was on the umpires they did not enforce the rule for leaving the playing field.

Everyone thought he called it a third strike, and the field umpires even thought he called it a strike, but since she was deceived into thinking she was out by the umpires, she was not ruled out. The home plate umpire never signalled strike three. He just held up his right arm.
That was the discussion with the umpires.
If you noticed the umpire behind the plate, he did have an unusual ball and strike routine.

Crow hopping was called only once against East. It was the relief pitcher that came in for Glen Este that got two runs scored against them for crow hopping. East was already up 6 to 0 at that point.
