We just wanted to share the segment that we recently did on Fox 8 News with the group and provide an update on our recent and upcoming activities.

Here is a link to the news segment:

http://fox8.com/2016/04/18/local-teen-creates-stay-in-softball-to-help-get-girls-on-the-ball-field/

Since the last newsletter that we posted in late January, we have done the following:

1. We put on a free clinic in Cleveland for rec program girls age 8-10. The instructors were coaches from Valley Extreme. SIS volunteers (tournament level softball players) also assisted the coaches.

2. We started a free ongoing pitching program to help young and beginner pitchers. Pitchers will get free small group instruction from professional pitching instructors. We will be doing this in three locations. The first instructor is Coach Alanna Barker, Manager of the Lady Lookouts and former Akron Springfield and Ohio University pitcher and current Ohio state record holder in several pitching categories;

3. We provided financial assistance for playing expenses to a player who is recovering from brain surgery and returning to softball.

4. We provided financial assistance for playing expenses to a player whose father was in a serious car accident and suffered serious burns and is out of work.

5. We sponsored a free clinic given by Bob Hoiles for a high school varsity team that had not had a team for a few years and has several players with no softball experience.

6. We sent used equipment and cleats to 5 players whose coaches or leagues requested the assistance. and

7. We held a used equipment drive at the Champion Athletic Club Early Bird tournament last week. Thank you Mr. Smith and CAC.

We also have several upcoming activities including the following:

1. We are putting on 4 softball clinics for over 60 players from the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland. Many of the girls will be trying out for the Cleveland Indians' RBI team (which plays locally and then travels to other MLB cities). In the past years inner city players have not had the skills to make due to lack of equipment, training and practice. To try to level the playing field for these girls we will be giving players, who show they are committed to the clinics and practice, used equipment and also providing clinics on offensive skills, defensive skills, tryout skills and "life skills" including how to carry themselves at a tryout and on the field and how to set and achieve their softball goals.

2. In June we will be doing more clinics for the younger Boys and Girls club players and will also be putting on coaches' clinics for B&GC coaches.

3. We are holding two more used equipment drives, one at the Outlaws Breast Cancer Shootout and an ongoing one at SPC Sports. Thank you Mr. Wolff and Mr. Temple.

4. We are having a SIS Night with the Akron Racers June 28th to help support the Racers and also as a fundraiser for SIS. The Racers will donate $3 of every ticket sold with the SIS ticket code back to us. Mr. Moorehead and Mr. Baker will broadcast the game on the Softball Zone Radio Show and will also be having a tailgate before the game. At the game SIS will have a table with giveaways and raffle items. There will also be chances to win the opportunity to sit in the dugout for an inning, throw out the first pitch and other special activities.

5. We are holding two fundraisers. The first is a fundraiser with the Girard Baseball/Softball Association, thank you Coach Dohy. The second is a booth at the Blossom Time Festival in Chagrin Falls. and

6. We are putting on a free clinic during the summer in Warren. At last year's Warren clinic we had over 80 girls.

Because of the publicity from the Fox 8 News segment, we have been receiving requests for assistance from players, teams and organizations. We will be reviewing those and donating to the causes that are chosen by our Player Advisory Board and Board of Directors.

We wanted to thank all of you who support us especially Mr. Moorehead and Mr. Baker who not only provide financial support but always give us the chance to post updates.

Unbelievable....What these kids are accomplishing.

They provided me a left handed catcher's/first baseman's mitt for a young lady that needed some serious help to keep playing;to stay sane. Didn't ask for a thing, just how to fill the need.

I had no idea they were so young.
Our world will be great hands when these kids take over!!!
