BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The Cavaliers hosted current Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday, Mar. 22 at Roxy Hines Memorial Softball Field. The squad had 23 total hits for the day but couldn't hold off the Bulldogs, dropping game one 11-8 and game two 12-3. Montreat currently sits at 6-6 in the AAC (15-15 overall).

"We definitely came out ready to play today. We combined for a total of 23 hits throughout the doubleheader, and we just kept swinging. I don't think Tennessee Wesleyan was expecting that kind of fight today, and I'm extremely proud of the grit we showed both defensively and at the plate," said head coach Heather Maston.

Game One: Tennessee Wesleyan 11, Montreat 8
Montreat scattered 13 hits throughout game one but could not push enough runs across the plate to seal the win.

The Cavs would get on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after Liana Elliott reached on an error. Destiny Munoz knocked Elliott in with a double to right center, then Abby Swilley drilled one over the fence in right center giving the Cavs a three-run lead.

The Cavs would allow two runs to score for the Bulldogs in the third inning before answering with four of their own after back-to-back singles by Munoz, Swilley, Vanessa Bartkewicz, Ashlyn Vickers, and Tori Hill. Kelsey Nolasco drew a walk to score another run followed by a Bree Powell sacrifice to score Vickers.

The Cavs would push one more run across in the bottom of the fifth inning, but couldn't hold the lead over the Bulldogs ending the game with the 11-8 loss.

Swilley went 3-for-3 at the plate in game one while also being hit by a pitch. Munoz, Hill, and Nolasco each had a double in the game.

Game Two: Tennessee Wesleyan 12, Montreat 3
Game two saw Tennessee Wesleyan open the scoring in the second inning, and the Bulldogs continued to push runs across in the third inning, taking a quick 7-0 lead.

Montreat would finally plate a run in the third inning with Mikki Shelton ripping a double to left followed by an Aly Woody single. Nolasco would then hit into a fielder's choice retiring Shelton, but Swilley hit a single to center to load the bases and allow a run to score on a Graclyn Green walk.

Montreat would plate two more runs in the fourth inning to end their scoring in the game before Tennessee Wesleyan plated five more runners in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the 12-3 win.
