Steroid use???

All over CNN this morning---Olympic track star Marian Jones finally admitting she used "the clear", back when she won all those medals. :'(

Do you think this could be much of an issue in highschool or college softball???

I don't personally know a parent stupid enough to allow a high school student to use and they don't sell at the corner drugstore and college sports drug test. So no issue at those levels.

It just got me thinking (a dangerous thing in itself), I know it's been an issue with highschool age football players, ?track and field, and I've even heard of baseball players abusing the 'roids.

I just hadn't heard of females using so much, unless you count those old East German shot putters.

I don't think it's a huge problem, but when was the last time your high school age daughter kept you well-informed on the illegal activities or rumors of such of teammates/friends?

Never under-estimate the power of stupidity. It is what keeps modern civillization on the brink of collapse. It can strike anybody at anytime, even you hockeybuckeye. Just look at your screen name. Smart to include Buckeye, but the wind of stupidity blew by you when you added "hockey." More people watch Paula Dean fry up mush on the Food Network than care about hockeye.

I don't think it's a problem but you can bet your bottom dollar that it has happened. Besides, who needs parents in order to obtain steroids? Steroids are rampant in high school football. Softball players ocasionally date football players. It could happen, however, I don't see many girls who are so competitive that they would go to that extreme.

Aw come on Ringer, it's the best sport out there besides softball. I know in hockey they don't suffer from that brutal "Turf toe wimpy out for two weeks nonsense"

But give me 15 stitches and get me back out there is my type of game....

Even with that said, hopefully we as parents can do our best to talk regularly to our DD's with what's right/ wrong openly and at the end of the day it truly is up to them on what decision they will take at that time, as we will not be with them when they need to make it.

What Jones admitted to was a cream that aided in the healing process. If anybody has ever had a child with poision ivy or other skin ailments most doctors prescribe some type of steroid cream to clear it up. It is very common.

On the other hand I believe the ingesting or shooting of steroids among girls would NOT be as common as someone mentioned above.
